SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A successful regular season could mean some end-of-the-year award hardware for members of the San Diego Padres.On Monday, the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA) revealed the finalists for National League Most Valuable Player, Rookie of the Year, and Manager of the Year.Manny Machado is among the finalists for National League MVP. The Padres’ star third baseman, Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts, and Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman are all in the running for the award.Noticeably absent from the finalists list is Padres shortstop Fernando Tatis Jr., who was considered among the favorites for the MVP award throughout the season.The last Padres player to be named NL MVP was Ken Caminiti in 1996.The NL Rookie of the Year finalists include Padres second baseman Jake Cronenworth, Alec Bohm of the Phillies, and Devin Williams of the Brewers.If Cronenworth wins the award, he would be the first Padres ROY winner since catcher Benito Santiago in 1987.The Padres’ first-year manager, Jayce Tingler, was named a finalist for the NL’s Manager of the Year award. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A woman was killed after a collision with a tree that split the car she was driving in two in the Carmel Mountain Ranch area.According to San Diego police, the driver, who has yet to be identified, was traveling on Carmel Mountain Road at an unknown speed when she lost control of the vehicle and hit a tree.Police said a passerby spotted the wreckage round 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, but it's unclear when the crash occurred.No other injuries were reported. 480

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Tesla owner got a road-rage surprise after a quick shopping trip at a Best Buy store in Carmel Mountain Ranch.Cory Janney bought his 2018 Model 3 in December. On Saturday, just past 1 p.m., he and his wife drove through the entrance of The Courtyard shopping center."As we were coming in, a car drove straight through a stop sign. I honked my horn for a millisecond," said Janney.The gray BMW drove off while Janney and his wife parked and went into Best Buy. After about six minutes, they came back to the car."We were both pretty shocked," said Janney.Along the front door on the passenger side was a deep scratch. A look at their dashcam video revealed the culprit. Soon after they parked and went inside, a gray BMW pulls into the parking spot next to their Tesla. A man with a green shirt gets out and looks around. In his hand is something sharp, like a key."He had stiff arm and proceeded to scratch the passenger side of the door, before getting back into the vehicle," said Janney.The "scratch" deep went all the way through, past the clear coat and the paint. Janney hasn't got an estimate yet, but one expert told 10news it could run upwards of several thousand dollars."It's disturbing something so small could lead to so much rage. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An injured cyclist is searching for answers along with some items that disappeared after a possible hit-and-run crash Monday.Rick Cessinger started biking from Ocean Beach to his home in Mission Beach around 4 p.m. Monday after leaving the home of his friend, Janet Kelleher."He put his backpack and helmet on, and rides off," said Kelleher.The handyman biked down Catalina Boulevard. About a mile and a half away, there was a crash near the intersection of Catalina Boulevard and Tennyson Street, leaving Cessinger unconscious. A day later, Cessinger woke up in a hospital with six broken ribs, a fractured collarbone, a punctured lung, and little memory of what happened.A photo of the bike helmet reveals it was cracked in the back. Kelleher retired from a career in law enforcement."It seems to me he was hit from the back and ejected off the bike ... It's bad. It's disgraceful. How does someone hit someone and drive off?" said Kelleher.That question is just one of many. Here's another one: Was Cessinger also robbed? Paramedics left Cessinger a bag with his helmet and shoes. His backpack, containing his wallet and phone, is missing.
