Hurricane Maria was upgraded to a Category 5 hurricane on Monday, with top sustained winds of 160 MPH. As the hurricane continues to churn in the Atlantic Ocean, it is expected to strike Puerto Rico on Wednesday. The hurricane could prove to be a disastrous blow to more than 3 million Americans in Puerto Rico. Because of the threat posed to the US territory, Puerto Rico was placed under a hurricane warning by the National Hurricane Center.Earlier on Monday, forecasters predicted Maria's rapid intensification. "Significant strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours, and Maria is expected to become a dangerous major hurricane before it moves through the Leeward Islands," according to the National Hurricane Center's latest update.  Maria has prompted a hurricane warning for Martinique, Guadeloupe, Dominica, St. Kitts, Nevis and Montserrat. As of early Monday evening, the storm was passing over Dominica. Torrential rainfall could cause deadly flash flooding and mudslides on islands that it crosses. Maria could dump 6 to 12 inches of rain across the Leeward Islands -- including Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands and the British Virgin Islands -- through Wednesday night."We want to alert the people of Puerto Rico that this is not an event like we've ever seen before," Gov. Hurricane Michael made landfall as a strong Category 4 storm, bringing 155 mph winds to shore.Due to severe safety concerns, officials in Bay County, Florida, said emergency crews wouldn’t respond to emergency calls placed during the storm. During a press conference Wednesday, officials expressed serious concerns of the amount of people who chose to stay and ride out the storm."I'm worried that large numbers didn't evacuate, because we have very good information that they didn't,” said Chief Mark Bowen with Bay County Emergency Services. “When you look at shelter counts, traffic counts, and the number of people who live in those evacuation zones, it's just math. So, there are people out in this storm. Va., are part of a voluntary recall.The ice pops were distributed to grocery stores and distributors in the following states: Florida, Alabama, Arkansas, Maine, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.The product was delivered from April 5 through April 19, 2018.No illnesses or incidents involving the product have been reported.The frozen products were sold 12 to a package under the brand names Budget $aver Cherry Pineapple Monster Pops and Sugar Free Twin Pops.The Cherry Pineapple Monster Pops carry the UPC code 0-74534-84200-9, and have lot codes D09418A through D10018B.The Sugar Free Pops carry the UPC code 0-74534-75642-9, and have lot codes D09318A through D10018B. The voluntary recall was the result of a routine state inspection of the company’s Denver production facility which found listeria in samples collected by the inspector.The FDA said that Ziegenfelder Company has stopped the production and distribution at the plant as the state of Colorado and the company continue to investigate the problem.Consumers who have purchased the affected ice pops are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
