NATIONAL CITY (CNS) -  A pedestrian was struck by multiple vehicles and killed while attempting to cross an Interstate 5 off-ramp in National City, authorities said Friday.The crash happened shortly before 8:25 p.m. Thursday on the Civic Center Drive off-ramp from southbound Interstate 5, California Highway Patrol Officer Jake Sanchez said.A man was attempting to cross the off-ramp from an unknown direction when he walked directly into the path of a Toyota Rav4 driven by a 33-year-old woman, Sanchez said. The man was then struck by two other vehicles, he said.The unidentified man was pronounced dead at the scene, Sanchez said. 652

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Every week, hundreds of people from around the world visit The Free Pizza Dude account on Imgur, created by a Nashville man, to either ask for food assistance or help out."I've been able to carve out this kind of wholesome side of Imgur where people come to my post to help other people," said Mr. Puckett, the virtual Imgur user with more than 7 million up-votes. "We had all of these people kind of wanting to help, but had no idea how to."In August 2019, Mr. Puckett created The Free Pizza Dude page to help connect the people in need of a meal to willing donors."We're not trying to end world hunger we're trying to make people happy. [Those] who would not otherwise be able to afford this kind of food," said Mr. Puckett.So far, the page has allowed people to send nearly 4,000 pizzas to strangers in need.Mr. Puckett knows what it is like to be hungry."I had problems with alcohol and was homeless for four years before I got on Imgur. I knew if I ever got on my feet again, I wanted to do something where we could send food to people that wasn't rice and beans - that wasn't food shelf kind of food - something they could really enjoy and remember for some time because I always did and I always remembered the food people sent me," he said.Through his website, pizza angels from all over the world have sent paid-for pizzas to strangers and fulfilled more than 100 detailed grocery requests too."Everybody wants to help, but they want to have fun doing it, and they want to have security that they're helping the right person, and I think we've done all three of those things," he said.Mr. Puckett puts out a new call for pizza donations every Friday.He said the reason he does this is simple."I was homeless for so long and so many people from my childhood days helped me. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — A Minneapolis commission says it needs more time to review a City Council amendment to dismantle the Police Department in the wake of George Floyd's death, ending the possibility of voters deciding the issue in November. The Charter Commission has expressed concern that the process to change the city's charter was being rushed. Some commissioners said they were more concerned with making the right changes rather than making them fast. The amendment would have replaced the Police Department with a "Department of Community Safety and Violence Prevention" that backers said would take a more "holistic" approach. MILWAUKEE, Wisc. — Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine is already being widely distributed across the country for healthcare workers, but a Milwaukee attorney warns the general public should know there is very little recourse if they have a bad reaction to any COVID-19 vaccine.Tens of thousands of people took part in several coronavirus vaccine trials. Some reported minor and temporary side effects such as headaches and fatigue and there were no signs of long-term health effects.Given that the trials were completed less than a month ago, vaccine liability attorney Jerry Konkel believes people should be aware that their legal rights are limited if the vaccine somehow harms them.“One thing I would say is to have a high level of suspicion,” Konkel said.Konkel said the federal government has shielded coronavirus vaccine manufacturers from personal liability lawsuits. Instead, there’s a federal fund for those who can prove their injuries were caused by the vaccine less than one year after receiving it.“They only pay non-covered medical expenses and lost wages as a general rule so it’s a big difference from the general vaccine compensation program which will pay for uncovered medical expenses, lost wages, future medical expenses, pain suffering, and disability,” Konkel said.Dr. Ryan Westergaard is Wisconsin’s chief medical officer of communicable diseases. He’s trying to convince those who are skeptical of the vaccine that it is the quickest way to return to normalcy.“The process that this vaccine was used to be developed was transparent and worthy of trust,” he said.Dr. Westergaard said there are two ways to understand the safety of vaccines, clinical trials followed by post-use surveillance. Those who administer vaccines are required to report any issues patients to encounter.“There haven’t been any long term negative consequences although it is early,” Dr. Westergaard said.Another way the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention plans to get data about vaccine side effects is through a smartphone application called ‘V-safe’. NATIONAL CITY (CNS) - To help ease local families' challenges during the coronavirus crisis, various agencies are offering free meals in National City, officials said Friday.All children living within the city limits of the southern San Diego County city can receive lunches at no cost at Casa de Salud Youth Center, 1408 E.
