SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Community spirit will come alive across nine blocks in Hillcrest this August.The CityFest Street Fair and Music Festival packs Fifth Avenue with bands, DJs, arts and crafts, and food from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. on Aug. 11.The half-mile-long celebration, known as "Pride-Light" to locals, brings more than 150,000 visitors to Hillcrest every summer. Visitors will be able to enjoy live music, buskers and street performers, and a special headliner on the grand stage throughout the day. A second electronic music stage brings even more tunes to the party.For arts and crafts, an artist village will bring together several vendors and their creations available for purchase.And on the food side, plenty of vendor will be stationed to deliver a variety of cuisines, including a massive cocktail bar and beer garden. 835

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Customs and Border Protection officials responded Monday to the arrival at San Diego’s U.S.-Mexico border of the first group of migrants from the caravan moving through Mexico.Some 85 people associated with the LGBTQ+ community are near the San Ysidro Port of Entry, according to journalist Jorge Nieto. CDC offers guidanceWhile Memorial Day weekend say many Americans looking to cool off, the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention offered new guidance on community pools. The agency says currently, "there is no evidence that the virus that causes COVID-19 can be spread to people through the water in pools, hot tubs, spas, or water play areas. Proper operation and maintenance (including disinfection with chlorine and bromine) of these facilities should inactivate the virus in the water."But for San Diego County, health officials are leaning on the state for the go ahead on pools. Sarah Sweeney, communications officer with the county's Health & Human Services Agency, says the risks go beyond pool chemicals.RELATED: Gov. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – California and two other Western states have issued travel advisories that include a 14-day quarantine for those visiting the states or returning home from outside travel.California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Oregon Gov. Kate Brown, and Washington Gov. Jay Inslee put the advisories into action for their respective states on Friday. The announcement comes as travel is expected to ramp up for the holidays.The advisories urge “visitors entering their states or returning home from travel outside these states to self-quarantine to slow the spread of the virus. The travel advisories urge against non-essential out-of-state travel, ask people to self-quarantine for 14 days after arriving from another state or country and encourage residents to stay local.”CALIFORNIA TRAVEL ADVISORY ANNOUNCEMENTIn addition to the self-quarantine, the advisories recommend travelers “limit their interactions to their immediate household. The advisories define essential travel as travel for work and study, critical infrastructure support, economic services and supply chains, health, immediate medical care and safety and security.”Newsom said in a news release, “Travel increases the risk of spreading COVID-19, and we must all collectively increase our efforts at this time to keep the virus at bay and save lives.”Brown added, “COVID-19 does not stop at state lines. As hospitals across the West are stretched to capacity, we must take steps to ensure travelers are not bringing this disease home with them. If you do not need to travel, you shouldn’t. This will be hard, especially with Thanksgiving around the corner. But the best way to keep your family safe is to stay close to home.”“Limiting and reducing travel is one way to reduce the further spread of the disease.
