BEIJING, April 28 (Xinhua) -- China's human resource official said Wednesday the country will step up efforts to improve social services for migrant rural workers in a report on protecting migrant rural workers' interests.In a report to the Standing Committee of the National People' s Congress， Yang Zhiming, vice minister of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, said relevant efforts will be listed in the next five-year plan,Yang said the ministry will increase the coverage of labor contract for migrant rural workers, improve their working conditions and realize the portability of old-age insurance for them.Yang said in the report that currently, many migrant rural workers still face difficulty in getting payment in time, signing labor contracts with their employers, and suffer from poor working conditions.The report also noted progress in protecting the rights and interests of migrant rural workers, such as more legal assistance to migrant rural workers.According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the number of farmers who worked away from their farmland for over six months reached 229.78 million in the year 2009.

BEIJING, April 3 (Xinhua) -- China will launch a two-month campaign to inspect work safety nationwide on April 5, according to the work safety commission of the State Council, or the Cabinet.Serious accidents took place in succession in some areas and industries recently, which shows negligence and loopholes in work safety management and serious violations to laws and regulations, said a circular issued by the commission.The inspection would focus on work safety in mines, the chemical industry, transportation and fire-works mills, among others.The campaign would include self-examination by enterprises, government inspection and public supervision.Enterprises are required to complete self-examination in April and local governments to conduct inspection in May, while the commission would dispatch supervision teams to check their work.The nationwide campaign comes days after 153 coal miners were trapped in a flooded coal mine in north China's Shanxi Province, which will be China's worst mining disaster in more than two years if the miners cannot be saved.

JINAN, May 3 (Xinhua) -- A pipeline owned by China Petroleum and Chemical Corporation (Sinopec) resumed operation Monday afternoon after it leaked 240 tonnes of oil in east China's Shandong Province.The company immediately shut down the cracked pipeline and blocked the leakage site after the leakage was spotted, said a spokesman with Sinopec.It recovered 220 tonnes of oil, which had leaked to nearby farmland and roads, the spokesman said.The leakage, which was discovered at 6:12 p.m. Sunday, occurred at a section of the Dongying-Huangdao pipeline near Jiulong Township in Jiaozhou City."The influence of the leakage on the farmland could be controlled within the minimum level," he said.Testing results from the local environmental protection authorities showed the leakage didn't contaminate the nearby water sources.An initial investigation showed the pipeline crack was caused by a digger driver who unauthorizedly excavated the earth above the pipeline to bury the waste at a construction site in Jiulong Township.Police are searching for the driver, who fled after the accident.
