SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A woman involved in a fiery multi-vehicle crash in the College Area on Wednesday died several hours after being taken to the hospital.Casey Diane Hargis, 22, was pronounced dead at UCSD Medical Center on Thursday morning, after a vehicle slammed into the Ford Fusion she was in as it was stopped at an intersection the night before.Hargis and the driver, a 22-year-old woman, were both taken to the hospital suffering from second- and third-degree burns on more than 70% of their bodies, along with internal bleeding.RELATED: Several hurt in multi-vehicle crash at College Area intersectionHargis died of vascular injuries from pelvic fractures, according to the county medical examiner's report.The condition of the driver has not been officially released.Wednesday, a 63-year-old man was driving in his Mercedes when he suffered an unknown medical issue and slammed into the back of the Ford that Hargis was traveling in at 70th Street and El Cajon Blvd.The force of the crash pushed both vehicles into the opposite lanes of El Cajon Blvd, where they were struck by three other vehicles, causing the Ford to ignite and leaving the women trapped inside before witnesses could pull them from the vehicle.The Mercedes driver was taken to the hospital for treatment, but his condition wasn't immediately released. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An hours-long SWAT standoff involving a domestic violence suspect in Point Loma came to an end Thursday night. Police were called to the 2200 block of Caminito Pescado around 4:45 p.m. after receiving a call from a neighbor. Police say a woman who lives in the home ran to the neighbor’s house reporting that she and her 71-year-old husband got into a fight. Police and SWAT responded and found the man on the second floor balcony of the condo. After trying to get the 71-year-old down from the balcony, police say he ran inside before a gunshot could be heard coming from the home. Neighbor Jenny Taylor spoke with 10News on FaceTime, saying she could see officers lined up with their weapons drawn from her patio. She said she was ready for the worst, "let me move it so we can at least duck down really quick and hit the floor and run inside the house, so we left the screen door open and moved all the chairs out of the way."It was hours before police and SWAT packed up.Authorities later found the man dead inside. According to police, records show authorities had never been previously called to the home. An investigation into the incident is currently underway. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A suspect fleeing from officers and an innocent Camp Pendleton Marine were killed in an early-morning head-on crash following a chase on Interstate 5 in Carlsbad. The pursuit began just after midnight Tuesday when officers attempted to stop a motorist driving a dark-colored F-150 truck for a speeding and failing to signal a turn on Coast Highway turning onto Monterey Dr. When officers got to the door of the truck, the suspect took off on Carmelo Drive near Harbor Drive in Oceanside. The suspect's wife tells 10News Christian Zurita is the man who led police on the chase. Zurita was reported traveling at speeds of up to 100 mph, and sometimes driving the wrong way on the freeway, police said.About 10 minutes into the chase, the truck entered the northbound lanes in the wrong direction near the Las Flores bridge trying to evade police. NEWS HEADLINES: Preliminary hearing begins for LJCD teacher accused of sex with 17-year-old Oceanside Police Department officers did not pursue the truck because it was going the wrong way on the highway, traveling southbound in the northbound lanes, according to investigators. Instead, officers tracked Zurita with the help of a San Diego County Sheriff's Office helicopter.OPD says at some point, Zurita turned off his lights. Moments later, he slammed his truck head-on into a light-colored Pontiac Grand Prix that was traveling in the northbound lanes.Officers approached the truck, breaking out the windows, and deploying a K9. A male passenger in the F-150 was pulled from the wreckage and rushed to Scripps La Jolla Hospital. Investigators said the victim in the Pontiac, a 19-year-old Camp Pendleton Marine, was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity hasn't been released at this time.
