ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) - An Alpine woman who tested positive for COVID-19 says her quarantine turned into a nightmare as a postal carrier delivered a package.This past weekend, Tamica got a COVID test after three co-workers tested positive. She also tested positive and remains asymptomatic."Since I got that Sunday, I've been quarantining at home," said Tamica.On Tuesday, past 1 p.m., as the mail truck pulled up to her apartment off Tavern Road, her two 80-lb. dogs ran to the front door and started barking. She says the door was open but the screen door was shut, as the postal carrier stood outside, at the door, with something in his hand."They were instantly pawing at their face and backed up, and acting weird ... jumping up and down and making a whining noise," said Tamica.Tamica believes the postal carrier had used his pepper spray. At that point, Tamica says the dogs jumped on the door and pushed it open. They ran out, and she ran after them. Tamica says the letter carrier sprayed toward one dog as it ran off, before turning to her other dog."I just jumped in front of my dog. He's wasn't doing anything. He wasn't barking. He was just sitting there .... He's a golden retriever and very friendly ... The postal carrier is spraying us, yelling and just spraying wildly," Tamica said.Tamica says that went on for about a minute, and it seemed liked forever."I was mad, scared, ready to cry … yelling at him to stop, stop, stop!" said Tamica.She says he finally did. Her dogs' eyes were left shut and stinging for hours. Her eyes were also ripe with pain. Tamica filed a complaint with the Postal Service."It's outrageous. This was not warranted at all," said Tamica.A different version of events has emerged from the postal carrier's statements.According to a USPS spokesperson, he claims he never sprayed through the screen door, didn't intend to pepper-spray Tamica, and only started spraying when both dogs were outside, lunging at him, to allow him to "leave the area."The spokesperson adds that based on the statements collected, they are standing by their postal carrier's version of events. They did apologize for Tamica getting pepper-sprayed in the incident.They also issued the following statement:"The Postal Service places the safety of its employees as a top priority. Letter carriers fearing for their safety due to a loose or unrestrained pet may stop delivery and ask homeowners to pick up their mail at the Post Office until the pet is restrained. (AP) -- Authorities say seven people were fatally shot in Southern California at an illegal marijuana growing operation.The crime scene was discovered around 12:30 a.m. Monday when Riverside County sheriff's deputies responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon at a residence in the community of Aguanga about 50 miles north of San Diego.Deputies found a woman suffering from gunshot wounds and paramedics took her to a hospital, where she died.Six more people were then found dead. A woman in Oklahoma is warning people to stay home and isolate if they feel sick, even if they have a negative COVID-19 test. "Don't trust a negative COVID test. If you have the symptoms, especially that loss of taste and smell, you have to stay home,” Lesley Shollmier told local media.Shollmier should know, she had three negative tests before a fourth one came back positive.A few days before Thanksgiving, she started feeling sick, so she took a PCR test and it came back negative. Then a day or two later, she felt more sick and fatigued, and had a rapid COVID-19 test to be sure she was negative before spending Thanksgiving with family. That test also came back negative.Her and her husband had a small Thanksgiving with her mother, brother and sister-in-law.The day after Thanksgiving, Shollmier tells CNN she made a cup of tea and slice of pumpkin pie, when she realized she couldn’t taste or smell."I immediately knew, this is COVID. I just knew that that was one of the classic symptoms and regardless of anything, I have to have it. As odd as it sounds, I was fortunate to have that symptom so that I knew for sure that I was doing the right thing,” Shollmier told KTUL.She went to a different testing site and took a PCR test. The next day, those results came back negative.Her symptoms got worse, congestion moved into her chest, so she self-quarantined in her home keeping away from her husband on the second floor.She took another PCR test for COVID-19 on November 30, and again, results came back negative.She continued to isolate as symptoms got worse, now including back aches, shortness of breath, congestion and fatigue."I just assumed 100% I had COVID-19 and the last thing I wanted to do was infect someone,” Shollmier said.On December 2, she reached out to her doctor and asked to take a fourth PCR test.Finally, after having symptoms for 12 days, Shollmier finally had a positive COVID-19 test result.The FDA says molecular tests, like the PCR test, look for the virus’ genetic material and most are done with nasal swabs or throat swabs, and are typically highly accurate.Health experts agree with Shollmier’s decision to isolate even without a positive test result. A study published in August showed that people who took a test on the day they started showing symptoms had a false-negative rate of 38%. Even three days later, those who had COVID-19 with symptoms still had a false-negative test rate of 20%.After Thanksgiving, the White House coronavirus task force urged Americans who traveled for the holiday to assume they were likely infected and to isolate on their own. Shollmier is sharing her story as a warning to others."Listen to your gut. Know when you're sick and when you need to stay home. And just because you get that negative test doesn't mean that you're negative,” Shollmier told KTUL.She is still dealing with lingering symptoms. ALPINE, Calif. (KGTV) -- The owner of a popular iron horse statue in Alpine believes a lot of planning went into stealing it. Rita Gallant says the iron horse was taken in the middle of the night. The statue stood 14-feet tall and weighed approximately 300 pounds. Gallant says she didn’t notice it was gone until days later, so she checked her surveillance tapes. “We believe they came in over the course of a couple of days. They had to remove some very large rebar wire that was in it that’s right here. So we had four of these that were in it to secure it to the ground,” Gallant said. Gallant says she bought the statue 15 years ago and set it up at her store, Double S Tack and Feed. Since then, the statue had become something of an icon in the neighborhood. 774
