NEW YORK — Travelers from states with a high rate of coronavirus transmission are now required to provide contact information upon entering New York, or they could face a hefty fine.New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the emergency order during a coronavirus briefing on Monday in an effort to enforce the state’s travel advisory, which mandates travelers from designated states to self-quarantine for 14 days when they arrive in New York.Travelers who do not comply could face a ,000 fine and a hearing for a court-ordered quarantine.Cuomo, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy and Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont announced the travel advisory in late June as the number of coronavirus cases began to surge in other parts of the country.“We worked really hard to get the viral transmission rate down, and we don’t want to see it go up,” Cuomo had said of the decision to implement the advisory.The travel advisory applies to states that have an infection rate above 10 cases per 100,000 people or if 10% of the total population tests positive. NEW ORLEANS, La. – The oldest known U.S. veteran of World War II celebrated his 111th birthday over the weekend and he did it in style.Like it has for the past five years, The National WWII Museum hosted a birthday celebration for Lawrence Brooks on Saturday. This year though, they followed social distancing guidelines and the centenarian enjoyed the festivities from his home in New Orleans.From his porch, Brooks watched as military planes from the Aeroshell Aerobatic Team and The Big Easy Wing flew over just for him.The museum also had its vocal trio, The Victory Belles, perform a series of numbers for Brooks, including “Happy Birthday.”Lastly, Brooks was presented with a cake, a recorded message from the museum’s CEO, and nearly 10,000 birthday cards collected as a result of a national card drive.“It is such an honor to have the oldest living U.S. veteran of World War II living so close to our institution, and it was meaningful for us to continue to celebrate Lawrence Brooks and his incredible life in a safe manner this year,” said the museum’s assistant director of public engagement, Amber Mitchell, in a press release. “As we continue to lose members of The Greatest Generation, it is so important that we honor these men and women for their bravery and sacrifice while they are with us.”Brooks served in the predominantly African American 91st Engineer Battalion, which was stationed in New Guinea and then the Philippines during WWII, according to the museum. NFL offensive lineman Richie Incognito was arrested at an Arizona funeral home Monday, according to the Scottsdale Police Department.Police report that they were called to the Messinger Pinnacle Peak Mortuary at 3:30 p.m. for a disorderly conduct call. Incognito, whose father died earlier this week, as upset with the staff and allegedly damaging "property" inside the business and shouting at employees.Incognito also allegedly said that he had guns in his vehicle and threatened to shoot employees, according to the police report.The 35-year-old free agent offensive lineman was charged with misdemeanor threats and disorderly conduct charges. NEW YORK (AP) — J.C. Penney says it is closing 154 stores nationwide in what it is calling the first phase of its efforts to shrink its footprint. According to USA Today, the retailer received bankruptcy court approval on Thursday to begin liquidation sales at stores that are permanently closing. The Plano, Texas-based retailer said it could take about 10 to 16 weeks to complete the closures. “While closing stores is always an extremely difficult decision, our store optimization strategy is vital to ensuring we emerge from both Chapter 11 and the COVID-19 pandemic as a stronger retailer with greater financial flexibility to allow us to continue serving our loyal customers for decades to come,” said Jill Soltau, chief executive officer of JCPenney in a press release. “I am incredibly grateful to our talented associates for their ongoing dedication and their passion for meeting and exceeding our customers’ expectations during this difficult and uncertain time. NEW YORK (AP) — New York’s Democratic attorney general asked a court to enforce subpoenas into an investigation into whether President Donald Trump and his businesses inflated assets on financial statements.Attorney General Letitia James filed a petition Monday in state trial court in New York City naming the Trump Organization, an umbrella group for the Republican president’s holdings. It also included other business entities.The filing also named Eric Trump and Seven Springs, a New York estate owned by the Trump family.“I took action to force the Trump Organization, and specifically EVP Eric Trump, to comply with my office’s ongoing investigation into its financial dealings,” wrote James on Twitter on Monday. “For months, the Trump Organization has failed to fully comply with our subpoenas in this investigation.”The attorney general’s office is investigating whether the Trump Organization and the president improperly inflated the value of assets to secure loans and obtain economic and tax benefits.James says their investigation began after Michael Cohen, the president’s former lawyer, testified before Congress that Trump’s annual financial statements inflated the values of his assets to obtain favorable terms for loans and insurance coverage, while also deflating the value of other assets to reduce real estate taxes.“We are seeking thousands of documents and testimony from multiple witnesses regarding several Trump Organization properties and transactions, including from Eric Trump, who was intimately involved in one or more transactions under review,” wrote James. 1601
