VIENNA, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said here on Sunday mutual trust, support and enhanced cooperation are needed in the development of Sino-EU relations.Yang made the remark during talks with his Austrian counterpart Michael Spindelegger, during which they exchanged views on Sino- European relations.Yang said China and the European Union, while the biggest developing country and the biggest bloc of developed countries respectively, are also two major economies in the world. And now, the loss of another loved one in a family of four is too much for the introverted 16-year-old to deal with.Yang Zhenmei, a volunteer psychology counselor from the provincial capital Kunming, traveled 930 km to the disaster area to offer help for young people like Yu.She held a brief psychological intervention session with the boy, had patient conservations with him and told him to refrain from aggressive behavior. She also told him to call her if he feels overwhelmed by difficulties.But not many people are as lucky as Yu, who receives the kind of psychological services rarely seen in Litoudi Village, a remote mountainous village in China's southwest Yunnan Province, which borders Myanmar. In a village with a population of a little more than 150, medical resources are scarce.Litoudi Village has only one doctor. Usually, local residents have to travel seven km to be treated in a hospital at the township seat of Puladi.Soon after the mudslides, about 130 doctors and nurses from Gongshan and Fugong Counties rushed to the scene, though none of them had previously received psychological training, except for a handful of doctors who had taken psychology courses back in college.Moreover, the focus of the medical services in the immediate aftermath was on treating the injured, helping rescuers with minor injuries and preventing outbreaks of diseases.Authorities have said 92 people were killed or remain missing following the massive mudslides that swept the village.Torrents of mud and gigantic stones smashed and buried the Yujin Iron Mine and about 10 civilian residences at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. ZHAOYUAN, Shandong, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Fourteen miners were confirmed dead, 23 others still trapped underground while 292 were lift to the ground safely following a fire that engulfed a gold mine in east China's Shandong Province Friday, local authorities said early Saturday morning.A total of 329 miners were working underground when the fire broke out at about 5 p.m. at the Luoshan Gold Mine run by Lingnan Mining Co. Ltd. in Zhaoyuan city, a spokesman with the rescue headquarters told Xinhua.Three hundred and six were lifted to the ground as of 5 a.m., but 14 of them were found dead, he said.Twenty-three people were still trapped underground, with 21 miners' locations identified, he added.Dozens of injured miners had been sent to two local hospitals, he said.An initial investigation showed that the fire was likely caused by an underground cable. Police were further investigating the incident.The mine owner had been taken into police custody, he said.Over 100 rescuers are working at the scene. Provincial Party chief Jiang Yikang and governor Jiang Daming have rushed to the scene to oversee the rescue work.

HONG KONG, June 21 (Xinhua) -- After working in Beijing for 10 months, U.S. Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman said here Monday that trust was very important and was the fuel that powered the U. S.-China relations."Sometimes the tank is full, (and) sometimes it draws down. When it draws down like what happened early this year, the relations become sort of rocky," said Huntsman, who was invited by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce as one of its 150th anniversary speakers.Huntsman, who became U.S. Ambassador to China in August last year, gave five observations on the U.S.-China relations.Firstly, the mandarin-speaking U.S. diplomat said there were a lot less dramas in the U.S.-China relations than many people might imagine despite the occasional alarmist headlines."If you view the U.S.-China relations with a distance, you get the sense that the wheel is coming off the bus. But when in the middle of the relations, you would get less drama," he said."There is more respect ... (and) the ability to communicate on the very very sensitive issues. I don't have a panic button, no restart button. The relations have ups and downs, but overall relations are strong, stable and resilient," Huntsman said.Secondly, he said there are areas of difference but there are many more areas of convergence and what unites us is a lot more important than what divides the U.S. and China."Our success is increasingly tied to identifying our shared interests and to working towards practical solutions," said the 50- year-old diplomat.Thirdly, Huntsman said the two nations were not seeking to " impose our world views on one another" or "to remake one another."The U.S. and China would seek to understand each other better, to continue dialogues and to improve future prospects, he said.Fourthly, Huntsman said while hot political issues often grab public attention, the foundation of the U.S.-China relations was largely commerce and trade.Back in 1974 and 1975, two-way annual trade between the U.S. and China was somewhere between 500 million U.S. dollars to 1 billion U.S. dollars, but this year the U.S.-China trade would reach 400 billion U.S. dollars, making it the world's largest commercial relations, according to Huntsman.Even in the sensitive areas of imbalance, it began to narrow, he said.
