LEBANON, Ind. -- The man accused of shooting and killing a Boone County Sheriff's Deputy said on Wednesday he did it because he "didn't want to get bit by a dog" and that he has "no remorse" for what happened.Anthony Baumgardt said those two things as he was walked into court for his first appearance to answer to the charges against him in the death of Deputy Jacob Pickett.When asked why he did it, he said "I didn't want to get bit by a dog", referencing Deputy Pickett's K-9, Brik, that was with the deputy during a foot pursuit of Baumgardt on Friday, March 2 when he was shot.Brik was standing guard outside the Boone County Courthouse as Baumgardt was walked in Wednesday afternoon just before 1 p.m. 726

(CNS) - Authorities Monday reached out to the public for help in identifying a group of people suspected of breaking into and looting a La Mesa jewelry store following a protest against police brutality nearly four months ago.Surveillance cameras captured photos and video of at least six people suspected of breaking into Pierre's Jewelers, 8324 La Mesa Blvd., on the night of May 30, according to La Mesa police.Many of the individuals were wearing face coverings, but one woman had a tattoo on her left forearm and one man had tattoos on his right forearm, left forearm and right elbow.Anyone with information on the identity of the individuals in the photos is asked to call the La Mesa Police Department at 619-667-7532 or lamesatips@cityoflamesa.us.Tipsters can remain anonymous and may also contact Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.Over 50 crimes, including arson, vandalism, burglary and theft, were committed in La Mesa on May 30 and May 31, LMPD Lt. (KGTV) -- Crews were able to stop an eight-acre brush fire in Lakeside Sunday afternoon.According to Cal Fire, the fire broke out on the 14000 block of El Monte Road around 2:30 p.m. The fire burned in a river bottom and scorched eight acres.
