A University of Utah senior missing for more than a week was last seen at a park where she met someone in a car, Salt Lake City police said.Mackenzie Lueck, 23, arrived at Salt Lake City International Airport on June 17 after visiting family.She then took a Lyft to Hatch Park in North Salt Lake, where she was last seen in the early-morning hours."Mackenzie was met at Hatch Park by an individual in a vehicle. He said police have not yet confirmed the make or model of the car or obtained a description of the person."To date the family and her friends have not heard from her," Doubt said. Police confirmed she missed a flight to Los Angeles on the morning of June 23. He said Lueck, who lives in an apartment in Salt Lake City, also missed a midterm exam."At this time there is no evidence that any harm has come to her. However because of the circumstances of the case we want to make sure that she is all right."Police said Lyft and the Lyft driver have cooperated with the investigation. The Lyft driver confirmed the route Lueck took and said she met someone after she was dropped off.Lyft said that the route had no irregularities and ended at the destination Lueck entered. The driver continued providing rides immediately after the ride ended, the company said."We recognize how scary this must be for those who know and love Ms. Lueck," Lyft said. "The safety of our community is fundamental to Lyft and we are actively assisting law enforcement with their investigation."Authorities believe her phone has not been on since June 17. They haven't been able to find its location, police said.Police said that sometimes missing people don't want to be reached. A New Hampshire woman faces an animal cruelty charge after pushing her 11-year-old dog into a lake and watching it drown.Nancy Bucciarelli was arrested Friday. She is accused of taking her golden Labrador Retriever to Wasserman Park in Merrimack, about 29 miles south of Concord, on June 8 and then pushing it from a dock where it struggled to swim and eventually drowned, police said in a news release.An investigation by the department's animal control officer found the 66-year-old Bucciarelli made no attempt to rescue the dog, police said.Witnesses told investigators the dog appeared "old and easily winded," the release said. "Witnesses further advised that when they could see the dog struggling, they tried to render aid; however, it was too late."The dog drowned in 3 1/2 feet of water, police said.Bucciarelli surrendered to Merrimack police. She was released on personal recognizance bail and is scheduled to appear in Merrimack Circuit Court on June 27 to answer to the charge of misdemeanor cruelty to animals.CNN has reached out to Bucciarelli for comment. 1083

A strong earthquake has struck the west coast of Indonesia Friday, according to the United States Geological Survey.The USGS said the 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck just after 8 a.m. ET. It said the epicenter was in the Sunda Strait, 65 miles from the city of Tugu Hilir in the province of Banten, on the island of Java.The shaking was felt in Indonesia's capital city of Jakarta, 240 miles from the epicenter, prompting people to run out of their homes. The earthquake lasted around 40 seconds.The Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysical Agency issued a small tsunami warning for four areas following the earthquake.The agency lifted the alert just after 10 a.m. ET after there was no change in the sea water level.The quake also caused some blackouts, plunging some of the affected areas into darkness.The Indonesian National Board for Disaster said it was working with local authorities to evacuate people living on the coastline. The board told people in the affected areas to evacuate to higher places.According to USGS data and the Indonesia Tsunami Early Warning System, there was no tsunami threat to other countries along the Indian Ocean. 1174

A plane made an emergency landing right on the shoreline in Ocean City Tuesday afternoon, with vacationers watching just feet away.Officials with the Maryland State Police say no one was injured in the crash.The sole occupant, 23-year-old Trevor H. Deihl took off from Reedville, Virginia on a local fishspotting operation and planned to land at the Ocean City Municipal Airport.Deihl told police he was about a mile from shore when he began to have engine trouble and ultimately glided the plane into the ocean.According to the Ocean City Police Department, an officer observed a small private plane make an emergency water landing at the beach and 21st Street at approximately 6:19 p.m.Personnel from the Ocean City Beach Patrol and the Ocean City Police Department immediately responded to the scene. According to a preliminary investigation, witnesses say the plane appeared to glide toward the water as it descended and then float on the surface of the ocean when it landed. The plane then floated in toward the beach. Graysen Levy of Baltimore was there when the landing happened and captured the video."We were just in the water five minutes prior, got out to dry, turned around to see a plane skimming the water into an emergency landing," Levy said. "The kid got out safely and the plane fully submerged into the water afterwards."
