HONG KONG, July 3 (Xinhua) -- A helicopter departing for Macao made an emergency landing in waters at Hong Kong Victoria Harbor on Saturday. All of 13 people on board were safely rescued.At around 12:04 noon (GMT 4:04), the Sky Shuttle type AgustaWestland AW139 helicopter, flight no. EMU2, made an emergency landing at sea about 500 meters northwest of Shun Tak Center at Sheung Wan, Hong Kong Island shortly after taking off."The pilot heard a loud bang at the back and decided to land on the waters," Acting Director General of the Civil Aviation Department (CAD) Leung Yu-keung said at a press briefing on Saturday that they will send some of the fittings broken down from the wreckage to Italy, where the copter was manufactured, for investigation. The crashed helicopter is salvaged on the sea area between the Hong Kong Island and the Kowloon Peninsular, south China, July 3, 2010. The helicopter crashed on Saturday noon, and all 13 persons onboard have been rescued.CAD will invite the participation of the accident investigation authorities of Macao and Italy. BEIJING, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Beijing launched a one-month household registration survey on Sunday in preparation for the once-a-decade census of China, the world's most populous country, which begins in November.A total of 100,000 uniformed census takers will go door-to-door in Beijing from Aug. 15 to Sept. 15, along with policemen, to check each household's current residential information, said a spokesman with the sixth national population census' Beijing office.Foreigners and residents of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan will also be surveyed for the first time, except those on short-term business or sightseeing trips, according to a census regulation jointly issued by the State Council and the National Bureau of Statistics in May."This is because the upcoming national census seeks to survey 'every natural person' in China and Chinese citizens who live abroad but have not obtained long-term living permits," said Su Hui, director of the office.The survey aims to count the total number of Beijing residents and to correct false household registration information and provide accurate information for the sixth national census, he said.Experts say that many households do not unregister their deceased family members so they might continue collecting social insurance funds from the government. Also, some children born in violation of the country's "one child" policy were also not registered.All information collected in this survey will be kept confidential, and will not be used for other purposes, Su added.Since the founding of the People's Republic in 1949, China has conducted national population censuses in 1953,1964,1982,1990 and 2000.The last census, a decade ago, set China's population at 1.29533 billion people.

ZHOUQU, Gansu, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- A new round of rains started to pound the mudslide-flattened Chinese town of Zhouqu Monday night, which has increased the possibilities of new mudslides occurring.The weather bureau in the Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China's Gansu Province, which administers Zhouqu County, issued a rainstorm warning Monday night, warning about the likelihood of new geological disasters.Rains started pounding Zhouqu at around 10 p.m., which, according to Gansu's provincial weather bureau, could last for five days and precipitation in some regions may reach 60 to 80 mm.The massive landslide on August 8 killed 1,254 people as of 4 p.m.Monday, with 490 still missing.Residents are ferried by a boat in landslide-hit Zhouqu County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in northwest China's Gansu Province, Aug. 16, 2010. PARIS, June 22 (Xinhua) -- The Paris-based Organization of Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) on Tuesday welcomed China's announcement of increasing the exchange rate flexibility of its currency yuan.The move was helpful not only to China's sustainable growth but also the world economy, OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurria said."A combination of sustained fiscal expansion, continued structural reform and exchange rate flexibility, should provide a strong contribution from China to the achievement of a strong, sustained, and balanced growth of the world economy," Gurria said in a statement.Richard Herd, an economist heading the OECD's China and Asia Unit, said it was impossible to achieve yuan appreciation over one night."The policy is not a political gesture; the policy is a sound economics-based effort," Herd said in an interview with Xinhua, rebutting reports interpreting the statement as just lip service.China's central bank announced over the weekend it would push forward reform of the yuan exchange rate and ruled out a one-off revaluation.
