GARLAND, Texas — You might typically associate the days after Christmas as a time when people start returning things in mass quantities. But remember all those Black Friday sales? FERGUSON, Mo. — Ferguson voters have elected Ella Jones as the city’s first black mayor as protests over police treatment of black communities roil the nation. Jones is a city council member and also will be first woman to lead the St. Louis suburb. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that she beat a fellow council member in a non-partisan election for a three-year term that starts later this month. Incumbent James Knowles III could not run again due to term limits. Following the 2014 fatal police shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown, protests thrust Ferguson into the national spotlight over issues of race and policing that remain the focus of protests following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis last week. 735

Four Oklahoma teens had planned to spend the evening hanging out together. They had no idea that by the time the night would end, they would be running into a burning house to save the life of a 90-year-old neighbor.Last month, Dylan Wick, Seth Byrd, Nick Byrd and Wyatt Hall -- all between 14 and 17 years old -- were at Hall's home in Sapulpa, outside Tulsa, when they first noticed the smell of burning rubber. Then, they saw flames coming from the home of his elderly neighbor Catherine Ritchie. The teens -- all high school football players -- wasted little time. Two of them broke into the house, and the other two called 911 and alerted the neighbors.Ritchie was getting ready to go to bed when the fire began. 729

GILBERT, Ariz. — In a bizarre two-day span, residents of an Arizona home say their concern is not just about what someone took from the house, but what they left behind. Police are now trying to identify a person caught on the home security camera Friday morning, who officers say may have been involved in a burglary at the Gilbert, Arizona, home the day prior. "The creepiness of it all is the fact of what he did, is kinda weird, it's mentally disturbing," said Max Ganley, who lives at the home. On Thursday morning, Ganley and his roommates awoke to the ring of their doorbell around 5 a.m. While no one was at the door, Ganley says someone snuck into their house through an unlocked back door and left a note. He provided KNXV with a picture of the note, which reads in part, "Please lock your doors. I only stole a knife and a flask. Stay safe. Could've killed you. Love you." 895
