A Marine lance corporal who marched at a white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia last year has been kicked out of the service after he spent nearly a month jail.According to the Jacksonville Daily News in Jacksonville, North Carolina, Vasillios Pistolis, 19, was discharged from duty and kicked out of the Marine Corps on July 11. Pistolis was court-martialed on June 18 for an investigation into violations of Articles 92 and 107 of the Uniform of Military Justice.Among the violations covered in those articles are making "false statements," "failure to obey orders or regulations" and "dereliction of duty."Pistolis was sentenced to 28 days in confinement in the brig, a forfeiture of some of his paycheck and a reduction of rank.ProPublica and Frontline reported in June that Pistolis marched at the "Unite The Right" rally in Charlottesville, Virginia. A Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) High School teacher has been removed from the classroom, pending an investigation into an interaction with a Haitian student, in which the teacher refers to the country as “some third-world island country."A video of the incident was posted on the Facebook page of the student’s family and has received tens of thousands of views.In the video, you can hear the teacher talk to the student“It’s called a door, let me show you how it works,” the teacher said. “I don’t know how it works where you’re from, down in some third-world island country, where they don’t got them. Let me show you what it’s like in America.”“That was a racist comment,” said Haitian activist and radio host James Leger. “It’s hurtful and I’m hurt and the community is hurting.”Leger said his phones were ringing non-stop Thursday morning when he addressed the topic on his radio show.The family of the student said they first went to the school to address the issue but when no action was taken, they posted the video online.On Thursday morning, Palm Beach Gardens High parents got this call from the principal:“Hello Parents, this is Principal Larry Clawson. Many of you may have heard media reports of a video circulating of one of our teachers verbally interacting with a student in a potentially inappropriate manner. This call is to assure you I am aware of the video and the matter is being addressed by professional standards at this time. Because this is an open inquiry, I am not at liberty to share any additional details with you, but I wanted to assure you we have processes in place to review incidents like this.”Some former and current students are defending the teacher.“Great coach, great man, great father figure,” one person wrote.Others are saying the teacher was simply joking.“That man jokes all day. A Philadelphia police officer who was seen on video pulling down the masks of protesters and spraying chemical irritants in their faces was charged Wednesday with simple assault, reckless endangerment, official oppression, and possession of an instrument of crime, the Philadelphia Inquirer and CNN report.Officer Richard P. Nicoletti, 35, turned himself in on Wednesday.The charges against Nicoletti stem from a June 1 Black Lives Matter protest, when demonstrators blocked I-676 in Philadelphia. Bystander video showed Nicoletti — who was acting as part of the Philadelphia Police SWAT team — approaching three protesters who were kneeling and sitting on the ground.The video shows Nicoletti pull down the demonstrators' masks and spray pepper spray in their faces. He also shoved one of the protesters. The District Attorney's statement claimed Nicoletti sprayed the protesters "without provocation."None of the demonstrators were arrested.According to CNN, the Philadelphia Police Department reviewed the bystander video and opened an investigation on June 24.The officer's lawyer, Fortunato Perri Jr., said Nicoletti was simply following orders."His unit was ordered by commanders to clear the highway with the approved use of tear gas and pepper spray," Perri said, according ot the Inquirer.
