DETROIT — The former principal of Anchor Bay High School in Fair Haven, Michigan, is suing the district, saying he was forced out after giving a wooden penis to a departing employee as a joke. According to an attorney representing former principal Jack Stanton, a female security guard confiscated the wooden penis from a student who made it in workshop. On her last day, Stanton gave her back the wooden penis as a joke gift, and administration for the school district found out. “He’s told by the administration 'look we are going to make all this information public, we’re going to do a full investigation unless you resign in 24 hours,' ” said Stephen Lovell, who is representing Stanton. According to Lovell, Stanton claims he was told by administration the female security guard was offended. Now Stanton is suing for not getting that hearing, saying he was forced to resign under false pretenses that the female security guard was offended. “They did everything they could to keep him from getting that hearing. They didn’t want him to have that hearing because they knew, one: the school board sort of exonerated him for this because it is this private joke, two: they didn’t want the fact that they were lying about this stuff to come to light,” said Lovell. Attorney Timothy Mullins is representing the Anchor Bay School District. Mullins tells WXYZ the school did not push Stanton to from his job. “For a disciplinary action against an employee to be taken by the board he can request a closed session in front of the board, he knows that, that's a fact, and any statement to the contrary is a lie,” said Mullins. Mullins says even if the security guard was not offended it's still inappropriate conduct of a school principal. 1751

EVANSVILLE, Ind. — An Indiana teen has died after attempting an internet challenge called the “choking challenge,” according to his parents. Mason Bogard’s mother, Joann Bogard, shared a message on Facebook Sunday saying she wanted the information about his death to come from the family. “We’ve learned that Mason attempted a challenge that he saw on social media and it went horribly wrong,” Joann wrote. “The challenge that Mason tried was the choking challenge. The choking challenge is based on the idea that you choke yourself to the point of almost passing out and then stop. It’s supposed to create a type of high. Unfortunately, it has taken the lives of many young people too early and it will take our precious Mason.”Mason was rushed to the hospital where his mother says he remained on life support until they determined he could not survive. “Over the last several days the amazing staff at the Deaconess Hospital has done everything they can to bring Mason back to us. Unfortunately, we will not have the opportunity to experience so many things with our child because of a stupid challenge on social media,” her post read. On Monday, Mason became an organ donor. Joann posted on Facebook that her son would save six people’s lives. “While we are devastated that we will never experience so many things with Mason again, we are able to find some comfort in the fact that Mason will save the lives of others. He would have wanted it this way," she wrote. "He was an extremely generous young man.”She also issued a plea to parents to pay attention to what their children are doing on social media, so that another family doesn’t have to go through the same pain that they have. “Finally, we want to plead with you from the bottom of our hearts ... please pay attention to what your children look at on social media," the mother wrote. "I know our kids always complain that we're being too overprotective but it's ok, it's our job.” 1956

DENVER — A father, mother and their daughter were shot to death late Thursday night at a home in southwest Denver, and the suspect knew the victims well, according to police.Bustaman Kartabrata, 59, was arrested overnight at a home in northeast Denver, police Chief of Investigations Joseph Montoya said at a news conference Friday afternoon. He faces three counts of first-degree murder and felony menacing in the shooting.Investigators were still working to determine a possible motive in the shooting and whether Kartabrata was related to the victims. Montoya said Kartabrata was "very well acquainted" with the family."It was some sort of conflict that occurred that evening that led to this," Montoya said. The shooting happened Thursday night at a home in Denver. Police arrived and found two adults – a man and a woman – and a juvenile girl with gunshot wounds. The woman was pronounced dead at the home, and the man and girl were pronounced dead at a hospital, Montoya said.Officials hadn't released the names of the victims as of Friday afternoon. Another juvenile was in the home during the shooting but escaped unharmed, Montoya said.A sale had recently closed on the home, and "there was indication there was people moving in and out of this home," Montoya said. "In all my time, this is one of the most emotional cases I've ever dealt with," Montoya said. "Everybody who was involved in this ... they were shaken by this incident. It was something that didn't need to happen. It was just so senseless."Neighbors said that the family was planning to move out of Colorado as the father, a school bus driver, dealt with health issues. Denver Public Schools Superintendent Susana Cordova released a statement Friday afternoon about "the loss of three members of the Traylor Academy and Denver Public Schools family." Traylor Academy, an elementary school, is blocks away from the home where the shooting happened."Our entire school district is saddened by this news," Cordova said. "We send our condolences to the family and friends of those who passed away." 2079
