SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Officials with the San Diego Padres announced Friday that pitcher Luis Perdomo received a a five-game suspension for his role in Wednesday’s bench-clearing brawl during a game against the Colorado Rockies.The scrum began in the bottom of the third inning when Padres starting pitcher Luis Perdomo threw a 96-mph pitch that nearly hit Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado in the back.Arenado threw down his helmet and bat and charged Perdomo, who countered by throwing his glove at the batter. As Perdomo backed up to avoid an Arenado punch, players and coaches from both sides stormed the field in an attempt to break up the fight.RELATED: Base-brawl: Benches clear in Padres-Rockies game“Arenado has received a five-game suspension for charging the mound and then fighting.  Rockies outfielder Gerardo Parra has received a four-game suspension for fighting during the incident,” the team said in a statement. "Padres pitcher Buddy Baumann has received a one-game suspension for fighting during the incident.  Perdomo, Arenado, Parra and Baumann all received undisclosed fines in addition to their suspensions.,” Padres team officials said.Padres catcher A.J. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Officials on Sunday released the names of the service members involved with a deadly amphibious assault vehicle training accident off the Southern California coast last week.A total of 16 service members were involved in the AAV accident on July 30, after the vehicle started taking on water while conducting shore-to-ship waterborne operations near San Clemente Island. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — New numbers show the trash continues to pile up at San Diego landfills.San Diego County's daily waste disposal per person increased from 5.5 pounds in 2016 to 5.6 pounds in 2017, according to the research group, Equinox Project, the nonprofit institute at University of San Diego."When the economy's booming and there's more disposable income, people tend to buy more stuff. That means more packaging, and it tends to come with more waste," said Nilmini Silva-Send, a researcher with the Equinox Project.San Diego County's disposal rate is among the highest in the state.More trash means more greenhouse gasses released and less landfill space. As for the biggest trash makers, Del Mar comes in at more than 17 pounds per person, followed by Coronado and Carlsbad. The Del Mar Fairgrounds and Naval Base Coronado are among several possible factors. "The higher the socioeconomic level, the more waste they will tend to produce," said Silva-Send. The cities tossing the least amount of trash per person are Oceanside, Chula Vista, and Imperial beach. The biggest increase for trash disposal happened in Santee, while the biggest year-to-year decreases were in Imperial Beach and National City. The waste report is part of the Equinox Project's annual Quality of Life Dashboard report, which provides a snapshot of economic and environmental trends in the region. 1389

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Police are looking for the person suspected of using an incendiary device to intentionally start a fire at a San Diego police substation in Logan Heights.At around 11:15 p.m. Monday, officers responded to reports of a fire in the rear parking lot of the Central Division substation in the 2500 block of Commercial Street.Responding firefighters put out the fire before it caused serious damage. No injuries were reported.The Metro Arson Strike Team was called in to investigate the incident after it was determined the fire was sparked by some sort of explosive.Police are viewing trolley security camera footage as part of their search for the suspected arsonist responsible for the blaze. 717
