TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — The first federal execution in 17 years is on hold after a U.S. judge ordered a new delay in federal executions.Daniel Lewis Lee, of Yukon, Oklahoma, was scheduled to be executed at 4 p.m. Monday at the Federal Correctional Institution in Terre Haute, Indiana.A U.S. district judge ordered a new delay in federal executions on Monday morning. Lee's execution had previously been been suspended late Friday following a decision by the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. The Trump administration immediately appealed, asking a higher court to allow the executions to move forward, according to The Associated Press.Lee is one of four people who are scheduled to be executed at the federal penitentiary in Terre Haute. Two other men are set to be put to death this week, while another execution is scheduled for August. The executions, pushed by the Trump administration, would be the first carried out at the federal level since 2003.Lee was convicted of killing a family of three in Arkansas in 1996, including an 8-year-old girl. This story was originally published by Daniel Bradley at WRTV, with contributions from The Associated Press. 1158

TAMPA, Fla. – Both presidential candidates will hold campaign events in Tampa on Thursday as they make their final pitches to voters in the swing state of Florida.Tampa is located in the western end of the state’s Interstate 4 corridor, an area The Associated Press says is known for its rapid residential growth, sprawling suburbs and status as an ever-changing, hard-fought battleground during presidential elections.President Donald Trump will visit the Gulf Coast city first, holding a “Make America Great Again” rally that’s scheduled to start around 1:35 p.m. ET.Watch Trump's event below:Following a stop in Broward County, former Vice President Joe Biden will host a drive-in event in Tampa, which is set to begin at about 6:30 p.m. ET.The stakes are highest in Florida for Trump, who is hoping to retain the state’s 29 electoral votes that he won in 2016. If he doesn’t win The Sunshine State, his options to reach the all important 270-vote threshold are limited, though still possible, based on polling. With Election Day just five days away, both nominees are focusing on encouraging voters to turn out for them. As of Wednesday, more than a third of registered voters had already voted, CNN reports. That’s over 75 million Americans. In the final days of the campaign, the conversation continues to revolve around the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. More than 227,000 people have died from COVID-19 so far in the U.S. and the nation is seeing an uptick in cases as we move into the fall and winter months.Trump and Biden are addressing the pandemic differently. The president is arguing that the country is rounding a corner and promising that a forthcoming vaccine will bring things back to normal, while his Democratic opponent is pointing to the Trump administration's failures. 1798

Surveillance footage obtained from a Las Vegas phone store shows video shows an iPhone exploding on a desk while an employee sat just a couple feet away. The employee quickly jumped up to get help as the phone burned itself out on the desk in less than 20 seconds. The phone screen was being replaced after it cracked due to heat damage as the battery expanded. The store is not being identified.Paul Tartaglio owns Gadget Repair. While it wasn't his shop, he says he has seen badly damaged batteries due to heat in the Las Vegas desert. He has seen a phone explode before but "It takes a lot for it to explode."The biggest issue he sees the temperatures rise into the triple digits in Las Vegas are the cracked screens from warped batteries. "Over time, the batteries heat up and bloat," Tartaglio said. "The problem is when it bloats up just a little bit, it can cause your screen to crack a lot easier."While he says it's extremely difficult to predict when a battery could explode, Tartaglio said the key is to keep phones out of direct sunlight during the summer. Not only can it lead to explosions in extreme cases, but it can also shorten the life of the battery —especially after the phone issues a temperature warning a few times.Smart phone users should also avoid overcharging devices, which can generate extra heat in the battery.Tartaglio also recommends people use replacement batteries directly from the phone's manufacturer, saying they are often more reliable than aftermarket batteries and typically aren't any more expensive. 1597

Swedish clothing company H&M is planning to close 250 stores next year.On Thursday, CEO Helena Helmersson said in a press release that the coronavirus pandemic had played a role in the retail chain's decision since more shoppers were buying online."More and more customers started shopping online during the pandemic, and they are making it clear that they value a convenient and inspiring experience in which stores and online interact and strengthen each other," Helmersson said.Helmersson added that sales declined 5% in September compared to the same time last year."Although the challenges are far from over, we believe that the worst is behind us and we are well placed to come out of the crisis stronger," Helmersson said.H&M has 5,000 stores worldwide. No word yet on which stores will be closing. 821

The American Automobile Association (AAA) expects at least 34 million less people will travel this holiday season than last year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.Public health concerns and travel guidance are influencing decisions not to travel during a time when people often take vacations. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is urging Americans not to go anywhere for the holidays this year, warning that it could increase your chance of getting and spreading COVID-19.Still, AAA projects as many as 84.5 million Americans may travel from Dec. 23 through Jan. 3, a decline of at least 29%.As for methods of travel, AAA says most Americans who do go somewhere in the next few weeks will do so by car, with road trips accounting for 96% of holiday travel. Up to 81 million Americans will travel by car, a decline of at least 25% compared to last year, according to AAA.As has been the trend this year, far less people will fly this holiday season. AAA says as many as 2.9 million travelers are expected to book flights for the holidays, a decline of nearly 60% from 2019.For those who do choose to travel despite the risks, it’s important to take steps that can help keep yourself and others safe.AAA says to plan ahead by checking with state and local officials along your route and at your destination to learn about local guidance and any restrictions in place. That includes what’s expected of you when you return home. Many places require COVID-19 testing prior to and after travel. The CDC recommends taking a COVID-19 test one to three days before travel and another three to five days after travel, in addition to reducing nonessential activities for seven days after traveling. When packing, make sure you include face masks, disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer and a thermometer. It might also be a good idea to pack water and extra snacks to reduce the need to stop along your trip.If you’re staying at a hotel, AAA recommends calling ahead to ensure it’s open and to ask what precautions are being taken to protect guests. If you’re renting a vehicle, you may want to ask about how it’s been cleaned. 2140
