Los Angeles-area protests calling for justice for an 18-year-old man shot and killed by police last week ended Sunday when police reportedly fired tear gas and rubber bullets at protesters.Video from Sunday's demonstrations shows police using chemical dispersants and shooting projectiles at protesters in Compton.One protester told CNN that the confrontation escalated into violence when a demonstrator wouldn't "back down" to police.KCBS reports that six people were arrested for unlawful assembly, and one person was charged with resisting arrest.Demonstrators were calling for justice for 18-year-old Andres Guardado, who was shot and killed by Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies in an alley behind a Los Angeles auto shop on Thursday.Police say Guardado flashed a gun and then fled as officers chased him. CNN reports that a deputy fired six rounds at Guardado. Investigators say they recovered an unregister semi-automatic pistol at the scene that included an illegal extended magazine loaded with live rounds.Guardado's family maintains that he was working as a security guard at the body shop at the time of the shooting, and added that they do not believe he owned a gun. But police officers claim that Guardado was not recognizable as a security guard because he did not have a uniform on and was not wearing a gun belt.California law also requires that security guards be at least 21 years old.Capt. Kent Wegener, the head of the department's Homicide Bureau, says investigators have taken six or seven exterior cameras from the scene of Thursday's shooting. It's unclear if any of the footage contains images of the shooting itself.Guardado's death marked the second fatal shooting by a Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy in a week. 1756

MENTOR, Ohio — A simple box that might look more at home in an apartment building is what the U.S. Postal Service says is the future of daily mail delivery. "We've gone to all Cluster Box Units, at the request of the U.S. Postal Service," said Sommers Real Estate President Rick Sommers. He says every new development that real estate groups like his build have the simply boxed called Cluster Boxes. The Postal Service says they cut down on the cost of individual boxes, locked boxes keep sensitive mail safe and make delivery a one-stop shop. "Obviously the post office truck doesn't have to stop at every house, blocking traffic," said Sommers.It's a trend that could help with some mail delivery concerns we told you about in the past. Residents near Akron were concerned with inconsistent delivery and letters going to their neighbors' homes.Sommers says this new way is going to be even more common in Northeast Ohio as the housing market continues to climb."There weren't any lots developed from about 2005 to about 2011, so there was a pent-up demand for new lots now that the housing market is back and strong," said Sommers.The Postal Service says the boxes could foster a stronger sense of community, almost like a new water cooler. Walking to the same spot to get their mail creates a place where neighbors can get to know each other, or even just get out for a stroll."We are designing and integrating walking paths throughout the communities, even though it is Northeast Ohio and we have some bad weather," said Sommers.One concern is that without mailboxes it might be harder for the police or fire departments to find the addresses that need their help. McDonald's announced it's tripling the amount of scholarship money it's offering to its employees to help them get a college degree.Eligible crew members can receive up to ,500 per year and managers can make up to ,000 a year, up from 0 and ,050 respectively.One of the workers who has taken advantage of the program is Jackie Southam from Henderson, Nevada. She's been working at McDonalds for the past 8 years.During that time, she's risen to become a manager, and she's also gotten help from McDonald's to earn a bachelor's degree from Nevada State in biology with a minor in chemistry.With the additional funding increase, she's planning to go back this fall and pursue a master's degree in public health.Her goal is to become an epidemiologist and work for the Centers for Disease Control.She says she's had to pay her entire way through school working two jobs, and the scholarship from McDonald's helped her get through.Right now, UNLV costs around ,100 a semester for state residents, and the College of Southern Nevada is around ,400, plus other costs like books and transportation.McDonald's isn't alone though. Working for several other large companies can also help you get assistance with tuition. Best Buy, Walmart, Verizon, and Bank of America all offer similar types of help.  1333

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Kentucky’s attorney general has received a long-awaited ballistics report in the police shooting of Breonna Taylor. Attorney General Daniel Cameron tweeted Sunday that there is additional analysis needed now that the report is in his hands. He says there will be no announcement on the investigation this week. Cameron has indicated the ballistics report has slowed the investigation of Taylor’s death by police on March 13. Taylor was shot in her home by police as they served a no-knock narcotics warrant on her home. Cameron has faced intense pressure from activists who want the officers charged in Taylor's killing. 647
