Southern California is getting blanketed with snow and all the winter weather is causing road closures in the mountains. Big Bear Mountain Resort Thursday announced several road closures impacting those hoping for a weekend getaway. According to the resort, Highway 18 is open in certain areas, but that could change throughout the night. Click here for an updated traffic map. Somebody call the manager — according to New York Times/Siena College polling, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has the "Karen" vote locked down.On Monday, The New York Times released data from two months of polling that showed how respondents planned to vote, which they made sortable by common first names — and according to polling, women named Karen planned to vote for Biden by a 60% to 40% margin.The support for Biden among women named Karen represented the largest split of any of the top 10 male and female names recorded by The Times. Men named Richard represented the biggest advantage in the top 10 lists for President Donald Trump, as they supported the President 64% to 36%.Interestingly, men named "Donald" were much more likely to support Trump by a wide margin — 68% to 19% — while men named "Joseph" were evenly split between the candidates at 45%.The names also seem to represent the candidates splits among genders — on Sunday, Don Levy, the Director of the Siena College Research Institute, said that Trump leads by eight points among men, while Biden leads by 18 points among women."Karen" is the nickname most often given to white women — particularly those who are the subject of viral videos — who respond to issues of race in problematic ways.Though the "Karen" meme has murky origins, the term exploded into the mainstream lexicon in 2020 after several videos featuring white women confronting people of color went viral. Spring Valley, Calif. (KGTV) - The new Homeless Assistance Resource Team is expanding to battle the growing homeless population, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. The program started in June. Their goal is to connect homeless people with services, like getting a driver's license, food stamps, or healthcare."It's not new to the sheriff's department, but having three full time deputies assigned to the mission is new." Deputy Matthew Faddis said they accompany the myriad of service agencies on their mission into obscure parts of town known to house homeless people.Faddis said it was to ensure the social workers, nurses and other workers' safety, and make them feel comfortable to do their job.Deputy Faddis said the department is working to help more people, "starting out doing this about once a week, we hope to expand that and eventually get the full time team doing this every single day."In Spring Valley, 10News walked with the team down into a concrete canal covered in graffiti. The couple they spoke with was given Hep A shots, hand sanitizer, water, and set up with a ride to get to an office where they can get set up for services tomorrow."If you don't have skills to communicate, if you don't have skills to be there on time, you get a stigma of, 'oh people don't care, there just going through my file anyway,' it doesn't matter." Kristin Kerrick said that's part of the reason why homeless people don't want to talk with the team. SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea announced that it has test-fired a new type of tactical guided weapon. The Korean Central News Agency says Chairman Kim Jong Un observed the firing of the weapon Wednesday by the Academy of Defense Science.The agency reports that Kim said “the development of the weapon system serves as an event of very weighty significance in increasing the combat power of the People’s Army.”The agency says Kim mounted an observation post to learn about the test-fire of the new-type tactical guided weapon and guide the test-fire.The announcement came after reports of new activity at a North Korean missile research center and long-range rocket site where the North is believed to build long-range missiles targeting the U.S. mainland.The White House said it was aware of the report and had no comment.The Associated Press could not immediately and independently verify North Korea’s claim. 925
