HAWAII — There was a close call at a preschool in Hawaii.The Hawaii State Department of Health says a classroom assistant mistook Pine-Sol for apple juice while serving snacks.The assistant at Kilohana United Methodist Church in East Oahu was preparing a snack for the children and grabbed a bottle of the cleaning liquid from a clean-up cart in the kitchen on November 27.The assistant apparently mistook it for apple juice because of its similar color, the school's director told the health department inspector.A classroom teacher smelled the cleaning product and stopped students from drinking it.EMS evaluated three students who took small sips of the cleaning liquid, but none of them needed treatment.One parent whose child was in the class says she was shocked a mistake like that could happen.The State Health Department says each year about a dozen people accidentally ingest Pine-Sol, and half of them are kids.CNN contributed to this report. 966

Hospitals and states collecting case data on COVID-19 patients will now be reporting that data directly to the federal government, instead of the CDC's online database.Beginning this week, according to an update on the Health and Human Services website, states and hospitals are being asked to submit data directly to the federal government and task force in an effort to cut down on duplicate requests and minimize the reporting burden on hospitals and facilities.“As of July 15,, 2020, hospitals should no longer report the Covid-19 information in this document to the National Healthcare Safety Network site,” the statement reads. The emphasis was added in the original document.The National Healthcare Safety Network site is the CDC’s site for tracking infectious diseases.The document says the change in reporting will help the White House coronavirus task force to allocate supplies like personal protective gear, ventilators and drugs like remdesivir.Some are worried the change in where the data will be kept means a change in public access to the data.“Historically, C.D.C. has been the place where public health data has been sent, and this raises questions about not just access for researchers but access for reporters, access for the public to try to better understand what is happening with the outbreak," Jen Kates, the director of global health and H.I.V. policy with the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation, told the the New York Times, who first reported on this change.Many researchers, scientific modelers and health officials in municipalities around the country rely on the CDC’s data to make projections and time-sensitive decisions.Michael Caputo, the assistant secretary for public affairs at the department, said in a statement to CNN, a "new faster and complete data system is what our nation needs to defeat the coronavirus and the CDC, an operating division of HHS, will certainly participate in this streamlined all-of-government response. HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. — A Tampa strip club is suing a child sex trafficking victim — the latest development in a court battle involving the club where the victim says she was trafficked. Now the victim's mother is speaking out for the first time.Scores Gentleman's Club filed a countersuit in mid-July against the child sex trafficking victim, referred to in court documents as Jane Doe. The strip club's response comes six months after Jane Doe sued the business, accusing the club of hiring and exploiting her when she was 17 years old.The victim's mother, who was granted anonymity to protect her daughter's identity, says she's shocked the club took legal action against her daughter."I was disgusted and saddened, and I still can't believe it," the victim's mother said.The victim's lawsuit, filed in January, accuses the club of exploiting a minor with mental disabilities, stating she "was repeatedly touched, groped, molested and propositioned to engage in prostitution with explicit sex acts being proposed.""She was dancing, to her recollection of 15 to 30 minutes of her being hired there," the victim's mother said. "There are things she's experienced that she will never get over she has bad dreams, she has PTSD, she can't sleep at night."Luke Lirot, the attorney for Score's Gentlemen's Club, defended his decision to countersue Jane Doe for damages."She was absolutely competent enough to trick the people that work at my client's club," Lirot said.In the countersuit, the club says Jane Doe tricked them into hiring her by using a fake ID. It states she had "...full knowledge that the presentation of a fake ID was fraudulent and untrue, thus making an intentional misrepresentation."Lirot said the countersuit is the only way to get to the truth."To find this out sufficiently and to hold the people responsible that had deceived my clients, this was the only option I had," Lirot said.Jane Doe's attorney Michael Dolce said he plans to file a motion to dismiss the countersuit in Hillsborough County Court."You cannot legally blame a child abuse victim for their own abuse," Dolce said.Dolce filed the original case against the club. It states Jane Doe was brought to the club in 2017 by Robert Torres.According to court documents, employees at the club introduced her to drugs and alcohol. The store was closed due to the protests occurring outside the University Mall.People wielding blunt objects, like hammers, broke the glass entrance doors and stormed into the store.After reviewing surveillance video, detectives believe about 200 people entered the store and most began looting the electronics section. An estimated 6,000 in merchandise and damages was reported."Not only is this violence completely unacceptable, it was disrespectful to the protesters who were out there that night trying to express their message in an impactful way," said Sheriff Chad Chronister. "We are actively working to identify each and every one of these suspects and ask the public to provide any information they may have." 1115
