WASHINGTON — After months of on-again, and off-again negotiations, a bipartisan economic stimulus deal appears to be on the horizon. While nothing is official, optimism swept Capitol Hill Wednesday that something could be passed by the end of the week. The bill would not only provide economic relief but also keep the government open through 2021. Funding for the federal government officially runs out Friday night at midnight. STIMULUS CHECKS INCLUDED The biggest news is that stimulus checks appear to be included in the bill. While nothing is confirmed, Republican Senator John Thune of South Dakota told reporters that the checks would be around 0-0 per person, which is about half as much as last time. Whether or not you are eligible for a stimulus check will likely depend on your income, just like last time. WHEN COULD YOU GET IT? If Congress is able to pass a bill by Friday night, checks could theoretically be deposited into millions of accounts by New Year's Eve. That's because unlike last time, the IRS has already built the computer program to distribute checks and staffers have experience. That's according to two U.S. officials who are speaking on condition of anonymity to provide details that haven't been made public yet. It's the most violent skirmish in months between the two forces. One official says Russian vehicles sideswiped a light-armored U.S. military vehicle, injuring four Americans. The official says two Russian helicopters flew above the Americans, and one of the aircraft was within about 70 feet the vehicle. WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court has refused to block the execution of four federal prison inmates who are scheduled to be put to death in July and August. The executions would mark the first use of the death penalty on the federal level since 2003. The justices rejected an appeal from four inmates who were convicted of killing children. Jessica Ward, a 6th and 8th-grade teacher at Minerva, was inspired to act after seeing a Facebook post:"Hello. We are teachers in El Paso. We would like to know if anyone is interested in sending us postcards to help our students know there is plenty of good in our world. As teachers, we may only be able to say so much. We think concrete messages of support would help us calm some fears. "I just hope this small little gesture will bring happiness and positivity to their lives," said Ward. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) – A group of teenage girls attempted to set a trap for a 32-year-old man who tried to meet one of them for sex, according to San Diego County sheriff’s officials. According to sheriff’s officials, deputies responded to a reported kidnapping at 1385 East Vista Way in Vista around 2:30 p.m. Sunday. A group of juveniles told responding deputies they used a social media app to contact “an older man who was looking for underaged girls to have sex with. The group hoped to expose the male and turn over the information to law enforcement agencies for prosecution.” Sheriff’s officials said the group made contact with Robert Dreyfus on the app and exchanged text messages. A meeting location was established at a shopping center at 1385 East Vista Way. Officials said that “Dreyfus arrived and convinced the 17-year-old victim to get into his vehicle to talk,” but he then drove away with the girl without consent. According to officials, the girl was able to message her friends for help, and they contacted authorities. Deputies made contact with Dreyfus, and he stopped his vehicle near the 2000 block of East Vista Way. The girl got out of his vehicle and was not hurt, officials said. Dreyfus was arrested by responding deputies and booked into Vista jail on suspicion of kidnapping, sending harmful matter to a minor and communication with a minor for specific offenses.
