SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Years of emails and persistence finally paid off for a Del Cerro man whose sister died while crossing the street five years ago. Vahid Hamzavi's sister, Mina, was killed while crossing the street at the intersection of Navajo Road and Margerum Avenue. There are crossing signs and buttons, but no designated, marked crosswalk. Hamzavi started asking for a crosswalk at the deadly intersection in 2016. In February, he reached out to 10News because nothing had been done. City Councilmember Scott Sherman's office told us there would be a crosswalk installed by March or April, but still nothing. Last week, Hamzavi called the councilmember's office again. Sherman's office told him they expedited the work order with the Department of Transportation and Storm Water and that the crosswalk would be in place by Friday. On Monday, crews were already out measuring and outlining the design for the crosswalk. The work is expected to be complete on Tuesday.Hamzavi says the wait was worth it and he hopes the intersection will now be safer for those walking in the neighborhood.  1153

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Two people spotted by police smashing a window at a Pacific Beach Wendy’s restaurant were arrested after leading officers on a chase.The incident unfolded at around 1:15 a.m. at the fast food restaurant on 1621 Grand Ave., according to San Diego police.Officers were in the area when they saw two people smash a window at the eatery. When police tried to make contact with them, they got into a pickup truck and drove away.The truck reached speeds of up to 100 MPH as it led police on a pursuit towards Interstate 8.Police’s ABLE helicopter helped ground units track the truck into the Midway District, and as the vehicle tried to make a left turn on Rosecrans Street, it crashed into the center divider.The truck then entered a nearby strip mall and came to a stop. The two occupants got out, but officers arrived and took them into custody.Police are trying to determine if the window smash was part of a burglary attempt or an act of vandalism. 975

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Two days after his new show was scheduled to debut, DJ Kevin Klein remains off the air.The controversial DJ had been hired to host a morning show on 97.3, which is transitioning into a new talk format and the radio home of the Padres baseball team.But Klein seems to have thrown his job and the Padres contract into question after he posted a tweet earlier in the week that caused furious backlash online.RELATED: Padres respond after radio host's tweet causes controversy over suicide insensitivityThe tweet, sent out by a Twitter account known as “Kevin Klein LIVE," was a photo of the Coronado Bridge with the text “JUMP*....*to a new morning show.”“Mental illness and suicide are not joking matters,” said San Diego Padres Executive Chairman Ron Fowler and General Partner Peter Seidler.Klein later apologized but his show has yet to debut. An operator who answered a call at 97.3 said the show is now scheduled to air on Monday.But sources tell 10News the Padres are now demanding that 97.3 change their programming to “family friendly” content. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — While Willy Wonka isn't expected to show up to San Diego Comic-Con, his famous promotion will appear before hungry fans.For the fourth year, the San Diego Convention Center has created its own chocolate bars that will be sold inside the center during Comic-Con, the center announced this week. A total of 3,800 chocolate bars will be made and sold near Ballroom 20 for each.But the real surprise comes underneath the wrapper for four lucky fans. 10NEWS' COMIC-CON CENTRALThe convention center has hidden four "golden tickets" inside the bars, according to the center. Those who find a golden ticket will be award a 0 Starbucks gift card — the perfect treat for an SDCC attendee.This year's four themed flavors include "Stranger Smores" (milk chocolate, crispy waffles, and maple syrup marshmallows), "Battle Bar" (dark chocolate and raspberry crisps), "Dragon Smoke" (smoked dark chocolate and chipotle dust), and "50/30" (sprinkles, birthday cake, and white chocolate).The last bar was named in commemoration of the 50th SDCC and convention center's 30th anniversary. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection started Tuesday construction on its second border wall project along the U.S-Mexico border. The 14-mile long project consists of crews replacing existing barriers with new 30-foot tall steel bollards. The contract was awarded to Texas-based construction company SLSCO Ltd. The secondary wall project runs just north of the primary fence replacement project which started last summer. 446
