SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- In an effort to help San Diego's homeless population, the City of San Diego is proposing a third storage facility the homeless can use to store their belongings. The city organized a town hall in July to gather input for the facility that would be placed on 54th and Lea Street.According to the San Diego Housing Commission, the facilities provide a "safe place for individuals who are experiencing homelessness to keep their belongings as they look for work, attend classes, or meet with a service provider or doctor."One of the centers, located on the 200 block of 16th Street, provides bins for more than 400 homeless individuals. Although the centers provide a service to San Diego's homeless population, some residents have made their opposition clear. Before one of the facilities opened in Sherman Heights, residents voiced their concerns. Neighbors told 10News they worried the facility would increase illegal activity and pose safety concerns in the area. To address concerns, security was placed inside the building as well as patrols sent out into the neighborhood. Exclusive content aired during panels also made their way onto the internet arguably faster than previous years. While the glitz of seeing stars, artists, and writers in person was missing, the heart of enjoying a panel for its presentation was still there.What didn't: ExclusivesAdmittedly, Comic-Con isn't just about exclusive merchandise. But many attendees enjoy being able to score gear that you'll only get at SDCC — for resale or to keep. However, when it came to exclusives, internet connection and website servers were at the will of how many people logged onto their site. So when something was highly sought after, websites saw a lot of traffic — sometimes too much. While the convention did its best to showcase cosplayers online with a "masquerade ball" via Tumblr, it just isn't quite the same as being at the event in-person. What worked: Connecting with fansHosting Comic-Con online ensured fans can connect with their favorite comic book writers, artists, and even entertainers. Without having to manage a tight schedule of going location to location for panels and events, users could simply log on and watch a panel, win some free swag in some cases, or reach out to comic book writers and artists for commissions or to purchase their work. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Jonathan Goldwasser was one of the first business owners to set up shop inside One Paseo in Del Mar Heights.He opened the Parakeet Cafe when One Paseo’s retail area launched in March 2019 - and followed that up a few months later with Juice Crafters.He says business is of course best when the plaza is full.However, One Paseo has been anything but full since March, when coronavirus restrictions went into effect.“This has been hard,” Goldwasser said. “We went from maybe 20 employees to four.”Things, however, changed this week, when One Paseo fully reopened its retail center. On Thursday, there were people sitting at its socially distant tables and chairs, while shoppers in masks walked down its courtyard.“Little by little we are hoping that we will get back to where we were before COVID,” Goldwasser said, noting he’s back up to about 20 workers.About 25% of the center’s 40-plus businesses are mom-and-pops that rely on foot traffic.Juice Crafters closed entirely and Parakeet Cafe was reduced to takeout and delivery, sales going down 80%. They’ve since recovered and are now off 40% from pre-coronavirus levels.“Little by little we are hoping that we will get back to where we were before COVID,” Goldwasser said.The City Council approved One Paseo, a residential, retail and office complex in 2015. However, a referendum from nearby residents and the mall across the street ensued. Developer Kilroy scaled back the center to its current 0 million version, which opened last year just south of Del Mar Heights Road.Now that it’s open, there are social distancing rules in place. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Just a few hours, and a few miles apart, San Diego Mayoral candidates Todd Gloria and Barbary Bry launched their final push for the upcoming election.A recent ABC 10News/Union-Tribune Survey USA poll shows a statistical dead-heat between the two candidates, with Gloria holding a slim 39-38% advantage over Bry. But that same poll also shows 24% of voters are still undecided."It's in times like these you want to be in the fight," Gloria said while holding an event outside of his campaign headquarters.Gloria spent the morning surrounded by the Local 145 Firefighters Union, as well as County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher and Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher. Gloria told ABC 10News his experience makes him the best candidate."The stakes will only get higher.
