Police surrounded a Panera Bread near the Princeton University camps after a gunman was reported to be inside. According to New Jersey Attorney General's office, police shot the gunman dead. According to the Princeton University alert page, two campus buildings near the restaurant were evacuated as a precaution. Classes are currently not in session, as Princeton is on its spring break.The standoff continued from the lunch hour into the late afternoon. The identity of the deceased man is being withheld pending notification of family members. Police in tense downtown Portland on Saturday ordered protesters to disperse and leave a location where they saw people throwing projectiles, including rocks and bottles."Failure to comply with this order may subject you to arrest or citation, and may subject you to the use of riot control agents or impact weapons," police said on Twitter and on a loudspeaker at the scene.This came as dueling political rallies took place and police braced for potential violence. PHOENIX, Arizona — It sounds like something out of a horror movie.A colorful beetle that may look harmless, but it secretes a toxin so strong, it can even kill a horse. When it comes into contact with human skin, however, the effect of this toxin can lead to extremely painful blisters.One emergency room doctor described it as a chemical burn.Dr. Joanna Woods can describe that intense pain firsthand."I went through an entire tissue box of tissues crying my eyes out. It felt, not like an itch; it's like I put my arm on a skillet and couldn't take it off. It's just excruciatingly painful," Woods said.Woods says she feels certain she encountered the blister beetle while watching a show at a movie theater."Midway through the movie I started saying, oh I'm starting to feel a little itchy, there must be mosquitoes in here," Woods said.Then she thought it might be bed bugs.  She saw red welts on her arm as she left the movie theater, within hours those welts were turning into big, marble-sized blisters.Welt went to the pharmacy to get medicine, the pharmacist on duty advised her to go to an Urgent Care, and the Urgent Care physician advised her to go to an emergency room.Even in the emergency room, Woods said staff appeared to be stumped by the size of these huge blisters all over her arm."I had nurses in there saying I've been doing this for 35 years, I've never seen his, what is it?"Woods was hospitalized for two days due to concerns over the swelling and treat of infection.KNXV television station reached out to Eric Godinez, the owner of Scorpion King Exterminating, who said he was familiar with the colorful blister beetle."There is a time of year that blister beetles migrate through the Valley, usually through farmlands that contain alfalfa and hay," Godinez said.They are also found in backyards, where they munch on flowers and leaves.Godinez said these beetles would only attack if provoked."If you brush them off or try to squash them, they secrete a toxin that is very lethal. It will stay released for about 2-3 months even after it's dead," Godinez said.He advised leaving it alone if you happen to encounter one in your backyard.Phoenix is home to the "Master Blister Beetle."The bug has wings, and Godinez said it was a short flyer.How it got into a movie theater, or on Woods' skin is still a mystery."I just wished it had never happened. It was excruciatingly painful," Woods said.She is now talking to management at the movie theater to get to the bottom of it.Woods does admit she does have severe reactions to most bug bites, so just like anything, different people can have different reactions if exposed to the toxin from his beetle, but doctors said it lives up to its name, the blister beetle. 2805

PEORIA, Ill. — Bradley University in central Illinois is requiring its entire student body to quarantine for two weeks because of clusters of COVID-19 on campus and is reverting to remote learning, officials announced Tuesday.Officials of the private university said they have linked a spike of the coronavirus to off-campus gatherings. The Peoria university is requiring students to limit nonessential interactions, stay in their off-campus apartments, residence halls and take classes remotely beginning Tuesday.The university said it has tallied about 50 COVID-19 cases so far, adding emergency measures are needed to respond to the outbreak without disrupting academic progress.“Although it may seem extreme, this move to temporary remote learning and a two-week, all-student quarantine allows us to focus on the continuity of the educational experience for all of our students while giving us time to gather data on the full extent of the spread of the virus and assess the best way to proceed as a community,” Bradley President Stephen Standifird said in a message to students.While about 4,600 undergraduates were enrolled at Bradley last year, it wasn’t immediately known how many are enrolled this fall. 1220

Pinal County Sheriff's Office says an electronic road sign showed an offensive message overnight in Queen Creek. Several viewers of Scripps station KNXV in Phoenix reached out Friday morning regarding a road sign along Hunt Highway that said "Hail Hitler". According to PCSO, the department first received a call about the sign around 2:30 a.m. A private company reportedly owns the sign and Pinal County officials say they were unable to reach the company for help at that time. They also reached out to Pinal County's public works department for help, but they too were unable to turn off the sign. Crews eventually covered up the sign so it could no longer be seen by passing drivers. KNXV crews headed out to the area later Friday morning where workers were on scene and confirmed the sign no longer had the offensive message.KNXV has reached out to the company for comment on the incident but has not yet heard back.  970
