Online interaction with one another has gotten to the point where websites and apps are having to remind us how to act. The neighborhood app Nextdoor has gotten a reputation for sometimes strange posts that can prompt mean and off-color responses. There's a whole Twitter account dedicated to examples. Now, Nextdoor has rolled out a new feature to try and keep some civility online. It's called a "Kindness Reminder." If you try and post a response that's similar to one that's been flagged in the past, you'll get a reminder of the community guidelines and that they can change your response. But you can still post what you want. “One of the problems of the age we're living in is that people don't necessarily share a common understanding of what counts as civil interaction,” said Keith Bybee, a professor of law and political science at Syracuse University.Bybee says some people are strategically not civil or just plain rude in order to attract attention. You see it in politics and trolling behavior. But in the end, civility benefits everyone. “Civility is sort of the lubricant that makes social interaction possible,” Bybee said. “It allows us to live in a diverse, heterogeneous society but nonetheless coordinate our actions for common purposes, so it’s important to find a way to get along with strangers.”Ultimately, you have to care what the other person thinks of you to achieve civility. 1418

At MGM Resorts, we have put health and safety at the center of all we do, and this will be a modification of protections that make up our multi-layered Seven-Point Safety Plan.”RELATED: Gov. Steve Sisolak mandates Nevadans to wear face coverings in public spacesMGM also updated their guest policy nationwide, "Guests and visitors inside public spaces will be required to wear masks at all MGM Resorts properties throughout the United States."Wynn Las Vegas released the following statement:"We applaud Governor Sisolak in his decision to require face coverings for everyone in public, including those visiting a resort. It is a demonstration of his commitment, shared by all of us, to keep visitors to Las Vegas safe, as well as our employees and local community. Mandatory face coverings have had no impact on the ability of our employees to deliver great guest experiences Similarly, we believe face coverings will not diminish the unique experiences only Las Vegas can offer visitors."Earlier in the day Caesars Entertainment came out with its own face mask policy and made this statement:“We promised that Caesars would continue to evaluate the latest recommendations, directives and medical science regarding the COVID-19 public health emergency and modify our enhanced health and safety protocols accordingly,” said Tony Rodio, CEO of Caesars Entertainment. “As a result, we are immediately requiring everyone in our properties to wear masks, because the scientific evidence strongly suggests that wearing masks and practicing social distancing may be the most important deterrents to spreading COVID-19 from person to person,” he added.READ GOV. Gov. Phil Murphy got an earful from two women over the weekend while he ate dinner with his family at a New Jersey restaurant, video of the encounter shows. The brief video shows the women happen upon the governor as he is eating at a table outside of a restaurant in Red Bank on Saturday night. The women launch into expletive-filled rants and, at one point, argue with Murphy’s son before the video ends.Warning: The video below contains language that some may find offensive New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy confronted while having dinner with his maskless family.**Language Warning**pic.twitter.com/6O3Jug0YmS — Breaking911 (@Breaking911) November 23, 2020 The governor addressed the video, which was posted on Twitter Sunday night, during a coronavirus briefing Monday afternoon.Murphy said nothing happened before the women approached the table and a third friend who was with them pulled the pair away after the video ended.“I have literally no idea who they were,” the governor added.Murphy said he and his wife have thick skin and he’s a "big boy” who can handle criticism, but added that his children should be left out of it.When asked what may have motivated the women to heckle him, Murphy connected the incident to the stress people are feeling because of the pandemic.“I started out with stress at the front-end of my remarks. There’s more stress in our state and our country than I think any of us have ever seen,” he said. “The stress levels are overwhelming, and they’re not unfounded. There’s too many people out of work … too much economic hardship.”Murphy also said no one was wearing masks at the table because everyone was actively eating when the women approached. Hundreds of people had to be rescued from fast-rising flood waters in the Midwest as several areas dealt with historic flooding that washed out roads and bridges. For many, all they have left is what they could grab from their homes before fleeing. Outside Omaha, Nebraska, animal rescue groups worked to save dozens of farm animals in the area, but others had to be left behind. Weather experts say, so far, 38 spots in the Midwest have reported record-high river levels, most of it caused by rain and melting snow. More evacuations could be on the way as floodwaters head downstream. The governors in Nebraska, Iowa and Wisconsin have declared states of emergency, and some areas could see more chances of rain throughout the week. 745
