The Del Cerro and Torrey Highlands are the best San Diego neighborhoods for renters, according to HotPads.Analysts evaluated rental size and price per square foot. San Diego’s median rental size is 1,154 feet, and renters can expect to spend .32 per square foot of space.The median rental size in Torrey Highlands is 2,033 square feet, at .14 per square foot, HotPads reported. Del Cerro residents pay .77 per square foot, with a median rental size of 1,710 square feet. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Iconic TV host Regis Philbin, who has roots in San Diego television history, has died at the age of 88, multiple news outlets report.According to a family statement obtained by PEOPLE, Philbin passed away from natural causes Friday night.Philbin returned to his roots in 2018 with a visit to 10News.After a stint in the United States Navy, he moved to San Diego where he launched a career in broadcast. The icon was briefly a news anchor in San Diego when Channel 10, at the time known as KOGO, approached him about taking over as an anchor of the evening news.PHOTOS: Former 10News anchor Regis Philbin visits the 10News crew"This was the beginning of it all," Philbin said upon beginning his tour. "It really was."Shortly after, Philbin landed his first talk show, "The Regis Philbin Show," which was filmed in the ABC 10News studios where the current newscasts are produced.Philbin acted as his own writer, producer, and show guest booker. He was able to book many top celebrities including Jerry Lewis, Ronald Reagan, Danny Thomas, and Liberace.His talk show, which was produced at the now KGTV studios from 1961 to 1965, aired live from 11:30 p.m. - 1:00 a.m. every Saturday night."The show became a big hit so it was time to go to Hollywood, I guess, so I did," said Philbin.Philbin moved his show to Los Angeles, before being hired in 1967 as the sidekick for a national talk show, "The Joey Bishop Show." SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - It appears traffic along parts of Normal Street in Hillcrest will disappear for good, giving way to the Normal Street Promenade.City Councilmember Chris Ward says the city has signed on for the project as part of the Uptown Bikeways Project with SANDAG.The east side traffic lanes would stay but the lanes on the west side will be replaced by dedicated bike lanes and a pedestrian walkway along a two-block stretch from the Hillcrest Pride Flag to Lincoln Avenue."I'm excited.  Hillcrest is a close-knit community, and this will make it even more social," said Hillcrest resident Madison Layo."A great gathering space for everyone that people can rally around ... show a little pride," said Alex Craig, another Hillcrest resident.Ward says the public space can host events like the weekly farmer's market and Pride gatherings, along with events such as street fairs, movies and concerts.  The proposal also includes 70 extra parking spaces from Lincoln Avenue to Washington Street.  Supporters believe the project could also attract business activity to the area.The Uptown Community Parking District has allocated .8 million for the project.  Community outreach for the project will begin in early 2019 with construction expected to start in 2020. 1307

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - In light of the governor's directive on limiting large gatherings out of coronavirus concerns, the San Diego Half Marathon announced on Thursday that this Sunday's event will be "virtual" only. While many runners support the decision to cancel the San Diego Half Marathon, they're upset that it doesn't appear there will be any refunds.Organizers sent 10News a statement that reads in part, "By their very nature, the cost of events like ours are front loaded and [non-recoupable], which is why we do not have a refund or deferral policy. This policy is clearly stated in our registration process and is agreed to by runners when they sign up for the event."RELATED: What's been canceled, postponed in San Diego, nationally due to coronavirusMajor changes are also happening to other local events. This weekend’s 5K Leprechaun run in Pacific Beach is canceled. The upcoming Pearl Jam concert at Viejas Arena is now postponed. He tells 10News, “I think it's too soon to speculate on any events that would happen in May, June or July.”“Events of a certain size have been canceled and we're seeing that's to prevent the spread of illness,” says Skylar Crowley with the Better Business Bureau in San Diego.
