BEIJING, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States issued a joint statement in Beijing Tuesday, promising that the two countries would "take concrete steps" to advance "sustained and reliable" military-to-military relations in the future.     "The two sides will actively implement various exchange and cooperation programs agreed between the two militaries, including by increasing the level and frequency of exchanges," according to the joint statement issued after Chinese President Hu Jintao met with visiting U.S. President Barack Obama.     The two sides commended the outcomes of the visit to the U.S. by General Xu Caihou, vice chairman of the Chinese Central Military Commission, in October this year.     Preparations would be made for the visit to the U.S. by General Chen Bingde, chief of the General Staff of China's People's Liberation Army, and the visits to China by Robert Gates, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, and Admiral Michael Mullen, chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, the statement showed.     The goal of these efforts, according to the statement, is to improve the Chinese and U.S. militaries' capabilities for practical cooperation and foster greater understanding of each other's intentions and of the international security environment.     Obama is in Beijing for a four-day state visit to China that started in Shanghai Sunday night.

BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Friday urged geologists to make full use of the country's rich resources and explore new energy in innovative ways.     "Geological work makes the basic and pioneer industry for economic and social development and it affects the country's overall modernization... BEIJING, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao played a major role in ensuring the success of the meetings related to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) by putting forward proposals to tackle the financial crisis and enhance regional cooperation, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Sunday. Wen returned to Beijing Sunday evening after attending the meetings, including the 12th summit between the ASEAN and China (10+1), the 12th summit between the ASEAN and China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (10+3), the fourth East Asia Summit, in Hua Hin of Thailand from Oct. 23 to Oct. 25. Yang noted that Premier Wen put forward a number of proposals and measures, which both tackle the immediate urgent tasks and issues of common concern and take into account long-term strategic planning. BEIJING, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- China Merchants Securities, a leading domestic brokerage firm, announced Monday that it has set its A-share initial public offering (IPO) price range between 26 yuan (3.8 U.S. dollars) and 31 yuan.     The Guangdong-based brokerage is scheduled to issue no more than 358.5 million shares, it said in a statement to the Shanghai Stock Exchange Monday.     The IPO price translates into a price to earnings (P/E) ratio between 47.18 and 56.26 times. The subscription of the company starts on Tuesday, said the company.

BEIJING, Dec. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Liu Yandong Wednesday said China will broaden international exchanges and learn from other countries in heritage protection.     "China will strengthen cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and other international organizations," Liu said at a ceremony held here Wednesday marking the 30th founding anniversary of China's National Commission for UNESCO.     "The Chinese government will keep carrying out international conventions and actively explore scientific laws and effective methods in heritage protection," Liu said.     China will stick to the principle of "preservation first" and avoid over-exploitation and destructive construction, Liu said.     China is a country with rich cultural and natural heritage. So far, a total of 38 heritage sites in the country have been included in the World Heritage List, and 29 kinds of non-material cultural heritage have been included in the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
