SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Recent changes at the border are being felt as President Trump considers a total border shutdown to combat the immigration crisis. Customs and Border Protection officials announced the reduction of the commercial lanes at Otay Mesa from 10 lanes to 8 Tuesday. “4 to 5 hours,” said one driver who added another man in his fleet took more than 6 hours to make it across Wednesday. Companies say drivers are missing deadlines or just skipping the day altogether to avoid the delays. “They lose millions,” said driver Benjamin Alfaro on the already cumbersome process taking even longer, “so if they don’t do that in the normal time of course they lose money. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County is no longer abnormally dry, according to a new report from the U.S. Drought Monitor. The report shows a large swath of Southern California having no drought. Most of California, however, remains abnormally dry, according to the report. According to the National Weather Service, the San Diego International Airport measured nearly four inches of rain since October 1st. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego County businesses have until Saturday morning to make sure they are up to par with the state’s COVID-19 purple tier guidelines, but El Cajon’s mayor said businesses in his city won’t be punished for not abiding by the rules.Mayor Bill Wells said he’s fielding a flood of phone calls and emails from El Cajon businesses since the county moved into the purple tier earlier this week.“People are coming up to me saying, ‘We’re not going to close, if we close, we’re never going to reopen.’ And, ‘We don’t want to have issues with the county or state, but we need to feed our family, pay our mortgages,’ and I understand,” Wells said.Since the pandemic began, the El Cajon City Police Department has already been told to categorize COVID-19 related enforcement calls as a low priority. Wells said that approach will not change this weekend.“If somebody called and said there was a nail salon or hair cutting place open, we’re not going to go shut them down. We reserve the right to do some enforcement,” said Wells. “If you don’t like the fact that there’s a business open, don’t go in there. That’s fine, you don’t have to go in there. Don’t give into the temptation to control someone’s behavior and if you do, do it in a civil nice way.”Though he said he understands the concern about the increase in COVID-19 cases, Wells said he believes the attempt to control the spread of the coronavirus shouldn’t be handled like this.He said, “We’ve had a disease as long as people have been alive, and disease runs its course. Many of their top spots offer a view from up high of rolling hillsides in Ramona, wildlife in its natural habitat near Julian, and unique vegetation surrounding Pala.All one needs is their phone and a joy for the outdoors (in addition to hiking essentials).Here's where you can find park rangers' picks and why each trek is a favorite:Wilderness Gardens (14209 Hwy 76, Pala, Calif.): "Take the Upper Meadow Trail 3.2 miles to a large grassy expanse with seasonal wildflowers. Also, look for the foundation of an old grist mill on the County Historic Resource Board’s list of historic places. The foundation is about 0.8 miles into the hike."Agua Caliente (39555 Great Southern Overland Stage Route of 1849, Julian, Calif.): "Keep your eyes open for bighorn sheep as you walk along the Marsh Trail, and snap a selfie about a half a mile in at a palm grove. Philo Mitman is a service technician with ASI The White Glove Guys."When this heat does come, our call volume is tripled, quadrupled cause everyone needs it now," said Mitman. Mitman said it's important to replace filters, possibly every month, depending on use. "A dirty filter is the biggest thing as a homeowner that can cause bigger issues because if that is neglected the big motors can get seized up, they can overheat , you can block coils off which causes big, big problems," said Mitman.Another common mistake, according to Mitman, is closing vents. "Common misconception is that people close vents off to save money, when in fact, it actually costs you more money when you do that because your system is designed for a certain amount of air flow to be delivered to the home and if you start cutting that off , the system tries to make up for that so it works extra harder," said Mitman.
