DANBURY, N.C. (AP) — The owner of a North Carolina speedway advertised "Bubba Rope" for sale on a social media marketplace page days after NASCAR found a noose in the garage stall of Black driver Bubba Wallace. Mike Fulp, the owner of the half-mile 311 Speedway in Stokes County, advertised the rope in a pitch on Facebook Marketplace that read: "Buy your Bubba Rope today for only .99 each, they come with a lifetime warranty and work great.'' The post was removed by midday Thursday. A spokeswoman for the North Carolina governor was among the many critics of the ad. 579

DENVER -- A dramatic spike in calls to the Colorado suicide prevention hotline could be tied, in part, to a popular song with a powerful message that is reaching a new group of people.Rocky Mountain Crisis Partners reports an almost 40-percent increase in Lifeline calls from June to October of 2017 (from 1,990 calls to 2,772), and they believe much of the increase can be credited to the rapper Logic's suicide prevention anthem “1-800-273-8255,” named after the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline."We see spikes for different reasons during the year, but this clearly was one we're pretty clear was triggered by the released of this song," said Bev Marquez, the CEO of Rocky Mountain Crisis Partners, which handles all the calls to that hotline number from Colorado area codes. "Because I'm a clinician and because I'm a CEO, I thought this is a great opportunity. And then I thought: staffing."In part, because of the increase in call volume, Marquez said, RMCP is increasing training and hiring 2.5 more positions in the next training group, going from 14 to 16.5.The song begins from the perspective of someone calling the number and saying that they "don't want to be alive" and follows that person from despair to hope. Counselors said the message was consistent with what they're hearing from the people who call in, and they credit the song with saving lives."I have one call that really stuck out to me. It was a 17-year-old who was having a lot of anxiety and had been in a crisis situation for a week," said Lindsey Breslin, a crisis line supervisor. "I said, 'What brought you to call today?' And he said, 'I've been listening to this song over and over again for the past week. And I decided today I should call in.' And we were able to get him the help he needed."The video for the popular song has more than 137 million views on YouTube.Counselors have said the message resonates with a new demographic that hasn't been targeted in the past, but is particularly vulnerable to suicide risks."I have noticed a lot of these Lifeline calls are specifically from teens and young adults," said Charissa Tvrdy, a lead clinician with Rocky Mountain Crisis Partners.  "Even when it first came out people were like I just heard it for the first time. I've been feeling this exact same way. I wasn't sure where to go, but now I know there is an option for me."With the spike in real calls, though, RMCP has also seen a spike in prank calls referencing the song, which they say has taken time from people who really need help."Colorado ranks 7th in the nation in terms of our suicide rates," said Marquez. "We have a script and just tell people that there are people really struggling that need our help."For the most part, however, Marquez said Logic's song is taking the stigma away from mental health issues and helping people who hear it have hope that help is phone call away. The number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline is: 1-800-273-8255. 3046

DENVER — Christmas gifts may not arrive in time as U.S. Postal Service offices struggle to keep up with delivery demands.James Boxrud, a USPS spokesperson based in Colorado, said they're experiencing historical mail volume.“This week is our busiest week, of our busiest month, of our busiest year ever,” Boxrud said. “We are seeing so many packages.”Millions of Americans turned to online shopping during the pandemic for everyday necessities and again for holiday shopping.“It’s like the perfect storm,” Boxrud said.USPS is overwhelmed as people experience long delays and deliveries past the promised window on priority shipping.Stephanie Turner, a teacher and business owner, said with family gatherings canceled, her package list got a little longer this year.“We would normally ship three or four boxes of gifts, and this year we are shipping five because of people we are not seeing,” Turner said. “If everybody is shipping a little bit more, it’s going to be overwhelming.”She mailed her gifts right after Thanksgiving and said they all arrived, but it’s her business she’s worried about. Turner sells custom jackets and tops on her website and Poshmark.“Right now, I have items that I mailed on Dec. 1 that still haven’t arrived, so that’s three weeks,” Turner said. “I feel really bad for my customers, but there is not much I can do.”The shipping delays tie up money — she doesn’t get paid until the package arrives. The Washington Post reported nearly 19,000 of the agency’s 644,000 workers are under quarantine after testing positive for COVID-19. They also found that mail performance plummeted and only 75% of first-class mail, like letters and bills, arrived during the promised window on the week of Dec. 5. Mail service scored 95% last year during the same time period.“We are flexing our resources,” Boxrud said.“We are borrowing people from areas of Colorado, bringing them to an area that needs some help just to try to keep up with that flow.”On Monday, USPS delivered 971,000 packages in Colorado and Wyoming, according to Boxrud.Private express carriers also stopped serving some businesses, which pushed more shipments through USPS adding to an already strained agency, the Washington Post reported.Turner is encouraging people to print out photos of gifts that haven’t arrived and wrap them up. She said she read the tip online. “Just be patient — it’s going to come,” Tuner said. Some Coloradans believe that while it’s frustrating, they understand postal workers are doing their best under the circumstances.“I feel bad for those guys,” Turner said. Many postal workers are working overtime and will work into Christmas Eve to deliver packages. Boxrud said some express mail will be delivered on Christmas Day.This story originally reported by Adi Guajardo on TheDenverChannel.com. 2814

Data obtained by The Associated Press shows U.S. Postal Service districts across the nation are missing the agency’s own standards for on-time delivery as millions of Americans prepare to vote by mail. The lag times are especially pronounced in key regions of some battleground states, where delivery times are below the national average. That raises the possibility that scores of mailed ballots could miss deadlines for reaching local election offices if voters wait too long.Missing a deadline is one of the key reasons mail-in ballots get rejected.Postal service leaders have said the agency will prioritize election mail. The USPS strongly recommends that voters request their mail-in ballots at the earliest point allowable, but no later than 15 days prior to Election Day, which is on Nov. 3.The USPS also recommends that voters mail their ballots at least one week prior to their states' due dates to allow for timely receipt by election officials. If you don’t want to rely on the USPS to deliver your ballot to election officials, many communities provide locations where you can drop your ballot off yourself.Click here for learn more from the USPS about voting by mail. 1185

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has received the most votes than anyone who has ever run for president.According to the FEC and The New York Times, Biden has received 70,224,898 votes so far, breaking the record set by his former running mate, Barack Obama, who earned 66,862,039 votes in 2008.That's with 86% of the votes reported.Trump currently has 67,423,592 votes.USA Today reported that many of those votes came in early voting, which set records too, with 101.2 million people making their pick ahead of Election Day.In 2016, Donald Trump received 62,985,106 votes, The Times reported. 610
