MOSCOW, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Wu Bangguo, China's top legislator, met with Russian Duma Chairman Boris Gryzlov on Thursday. Both leaders stressed the importance of parliamentary cooperation and the unique role it serves bilateral relations.     Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress(NPC), hailed the bilateral parliamentary cooperation at various levels in recent years. He called on the parliamentary bodies to approve bilateral cooperation deals on oil and natural gas on time.     He also urged the implementation of already-signed cooperation agreements, and for support to help Chinese and Russian enterprises find new opportunities for cooperation within each other's economic stimulus plans.     The NPC and the State Duma, the lower house of the Russian Parliament, should also be actively engaged in activities commemorating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties and to broadly share the idea of friendship between the two nations, Wu said.     Gryzlov said parliamentary cooperation between Russia and China has served a significant and unique role in the fast development of bilateral ties.     Especially since the two parliaments established a regular exchange mechanism, more and more Duma legislators have been involved in promoting friendship between the two countries, he said.     The State Duma hopes to further strengthen its ties with the NPC, and to promote bilateral cooperation in areas such as politics, economy, culture, environment, anti-terrorism and anti-drug smuggling, Gryzlov said.     Wu is in Moscow for an official visit to Russia. Since arriving in Moscow on Wednesday, the legislator has met with Russian President Dmitri Medvedev and Sergei Mironov, chairman of the upper chamber of the Russian Parliament, known as the Federation Council.

BEIJING, June 21 (Xinhua) -- A central government official has urged government complaints-receiving offices at all levels to work hard to contribute to China's reform, development and social stability.     Ma Kai, state councilor and secretary-general of the State Council, made the call during his recent research tour in Anshan and Shenyang of northeast China's Liaoning Province. A main purpose of this trip is to look into grass-roots efforts to respond to public complaints.     During this trip, he paid a visit to the family of Pan Zuoliang, a role model in the complaints-receiving bureau in Liaozhong County, Shenyang. Pan died on duty of cerebral hemorrhage last May. He was praised by the central authorities as a model official in dealing with public complaints.     He also visited urban communities, industrial enterprises and complaints-receiving offices.     Ma said the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the State Council have always attached great importance to the work of dealing with people's complaints.     Since the 16th Party Congress, in 2002, when Hu Jintao took office as the General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, the Party Central Committee has adopted a series of important resolutions and arrangements to improve the work, the official said.     He urged the complaints-receiving officials to safeguard the legal rights and interests of the people and actively solve matters that may cause instability so as to create a sound social environment for the celebrations of the 60th founding anniversary of New China, or the People's Republic of China (PRC).

BEIJING, May 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Thursday met with President of the Socialist International(SI) George Papandreou on promoting the world's sustainable development.     Papandreou was leading a 15-member delegation to Beijing for a sustainable growth seminar co-sponsored by the Communist Party of China(CPC) and the SI.     Li, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, reviewed the increasing exchanges since the CPC and the SI started their exchanges in 1982.     "Jointly holding a seminar on sustainable growth signifies a positive step for both sides to deepen strategic dialogue," Li said.     The seminar, scheduled for Friday, will address how to work together to deal with climate change and other environmental challenges.     Li briefed Papandreou on the country's efforts to tackle the international financial crisis and seek sustainable development.     Li said the CPC valued the ties with the SI and its member parties and called for increased cooperation and deeper dialogue.     Papandreou said the Socialist International would like to seek more dialogue and cooperation with the CPC to promote sustainable development worldwide. VIENNA, May 16 (Xinhua) -- Chinese top legislator Wu Bangguo and Austrian Acting Chancellor Josef Proll met here on Saturday, with both sides agreeing to expand bilateral trade and economic cooperation in the fight against the ongoing world financial crisis.     Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress (NPC), said China's development has provided even greater room for expanding economic and technological cooperation with Austria. In the process of addressing the consequences of the financial crisis, the Austrian government places great importance on strengthening economic and technological relations with China.     China witnessed an economic growth of 6.1 percent in the first quarter of this year, while Austria's economy contracted 2.8 percent in the same period.     Noting that the two economies are highly complementary, Wu said China has a huge market and Austria has advanced technologies in many fields. He said China is ready to expand cooperation with Austria in such areas as energy efficiency, environment protection, water conservancy, eco-agriculture, auto parts and clean energy, so as to foster new growth spots of both economies.     Proll said Austria will actively transfer advanced technology to China in a bid to expand cooperative areas and carry out large-scale projects. He is the first NPC chairman to visit the country in 15 years. 

BEIJING, June 2 (Xinhua) -- Representatives from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the ruling United Russia Party met Tuesday to exchange views on the international financial crisis.     "This is the first official and high-level dialogue between the Chinese and Russian ruling parties," said Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee of his meeting with United Russia Party's council presidium secretary Vyacheslav Volodin.     Wang and Volodin signed an agreement on party-to-party cooperation on later Tuesday. Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping attended the signing ceremony.     Xi hailed the Sino-Russian relationship when meeting with Volodin before the ceremony, saying that China would work with Russia to promote stable and healthy growth of the ties, in a bid to benefit the two nations and peoples.
