Newspaper reports called Feliciano's performance "disgraceful," and some called him a "hippie."Despite the controversy at the time, Feliciano was invited back to Detroit to sing the anthem 44 years later before a Tigers playoff game, where he received unanimous applause.Jimi Hendrix — Woodstock (1969)Prior to Hendrix's performance at Woodstock, it was hard to imagine the national anthem being played on an electric guitar. Now, it's considered one of the most iconic renditions of the anthem ever performed.Roseanne Barr — San Diego, 1990Comedienne Roseanne Barr is not known for her singing voice, and it showed during her rendition of the anthem prior to a baseball game between the San Diego Padres and the Cincinnati Reds. She screeched her way through the anthem, and capped it all off by spitting on the ground and grabbing at her crotch.Barr maintains her act was a joke, and told the Washington Post that she wasn't trying to respect the anthem or the flag with her performance. President George Bush disagreed.For her part, Barr maintains her version of the anthems was better than Fergie's.Whitney Houston — 1991 Super BowlWith the country newly entangled in a foreign war and security tensions high at the world's biggest sporting event, Houston delivered perhaps the most stirring and inspiring live performance of the anthem in the song's history. Even after her death, Houston's performance at the Super Bowl remains one of her most played songs.Jack Black — Los Angeles, 2011Black is most known for his slapstick comedy, so it must have been strange for fans of the WNBA's Los Angeles Sparks step to the mic for the anthem in 2011.However, Black is one half of the musical duo known as Tenacious D, and showed off his pipes in the 2003 comedy "School of Rock." Whether or not the Staples Center crowd was ready for it, Black went out and delivered a stirring rendition of the "Star Spangled Banner."Jesse McGuire — 2013 NFL PlayoffsThough the national anthem is played and sung live dozens of times each day, it's not often that an instrumental version of the anthem is played solo. Sears has won some more time to save itself. But not a lot more time.At a bankruptcy court hearing Thursday, Judge Robert Drain approved Sears' plan to auction off about 500 stores. The auction is central to the company's mission to remain in business. Sears intends to use funds from the sale for its operations, and it will pay rent to the stores' buyers so they can stay open.A committee of Sears' creditors had objected to the plan and argued that the company should immediately start the process of going out of business to limit its ongoing losses.Judge Drain said he will hold another hearing a week before Christmas to consider whether to go ahead with Sears' effort to stay in business or start the process to close all its remaining stores. Drain said it wasn't realistic to start a liquidation process immediately."You can't do a GOB [going out of business] plan for a company this big by snapping your fingers," he said. "Let's come back to court [in December] and see what the lay of the land is."Sears' attorneys conceded was a chance the company might not be able to survive."We recognize we have a tough path ahead of us to save the company," said Sears attorney Ray Schrock. SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — An attorney for a U.S. college student and her boyfriend who have been sentenced to four months in prison in the Cayman Islands for violating strict COVID-19 measures says he plans to appeal the recent ruling.Their attorney Jonathon Hughes says Skylar Mack, 18, of Georgia, and Vanjae Ramgeet, 24, of the Cayman Islands, have been in prison since Tuesday.He says he will argue for a less severe sentence next week and says the two have never been in trouble with the police.Mack is accused of breaking a mandatory two-week quarantine.Hughes told the Associated Press that on Nov. 27, Mack arrived in the Cayman Islands.But instead of undergoing a mandatory two-week quarantine, she broke quarantine by leaving with her boyfriend to attend a water sports event on Nov. 29, the AP reported.According to the AP, a judge ruled that Mack and Ramgeet pay a ,400 fine and provide 40 hours of community service. Ramgeet was also ordered to a two-month curfew, but prosecutors appealed, saying the punishment was lenient.On Dec. 15, a higher court ruled in favor of the prosecutors, and the couple was immediately imprisoned, the AP reported.Mack's grandmother told the AP that she emailed President Donald Trump and received a response saying the White House would look into it. 1309

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) — One man was killed in a shooting involving a Border Patrol officer Friday near the Las Americas Premium Outlets.Just before 6 p.m., a Border Patrol agent assigned to the San Diego Sector shot an unidentified 30-year-old man in the area of Dairy Mart Rd. and Camino De La Plaza, close to the international border, according to Aaron Heitke, Chief Patrol Agent with United States Border Patrol in San Diego.Heitke said the man was illegally trying to enter the U.S. west of the San Ysidro Port of Entry.During the arrest, an altercation between the man and agent began, during which the agent fired his service weapon, striking the man in the torso, according to Heitke. The details surrounding what led to the fight haven’t been released at this time.The agent received minor injuries, according to San Diego Police. That agent is not being identified at this time, police added.At about 6:25 p.m., first responders pronounced the man dead, Heitke added. The victim has been identified but his name was not released. He was described as an adult Mexican national.SDPD officers were also called to the scene. Border Patrol told ABC 10News that SDPD will be handling the investigation.After SDPD's Homicide Unit completes its investigation, the U.S. Attorney's Office will review the case.
