Popular digital marketplace Groupon has changed its cancellation policy after some people complained it was too restrictive.Before, once you purchased something in the marketplace, you had 24 hours to cancel your purchase. However, some businesses changed their hours of operation or how many people the business could support at once thanks to the pandemic, so customers would be losing their money on these purchases.Now, Groupon offers customers 72 hours to cancel any purchases, just in case. Even with the extended grace period though, some say it's still a good idea to call ahead and double-check how a business is operating."Figuring out what the business looks like, have their hours been affected, are they temporarily closed because of COVID and if they are open it’s not a bad idea to call and see if they are honoring the group because so many businesses are being affected by COVID," Sara Kemerer, a Tri-State public relations specialist with the Better Business Bureau, said to WCPO.On its coronavirus update page, Groupon said if your voucher was extended past its expiration date, you'd receive an email with the new expiration date.Groupon also said you can check your My Groupons on your account to see if the expiration date has been extended. President Donald Trump gave his final Thanksgiving address to troops before President-elect Joe Biden takes office in January. After addressing service members, Trump answered questions for the first time since his November 3 election defeat, saying that it would be a “mistake” if the Electoral College votes for Biden next month.“This election was a fraud,” Trump claimed.Two weeks ago, a joint statement released by federal and state officials described the presidential election as the “most secure in American history.”The letter was signed by leaders of the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission and the National Association of State Election Directors, among others. It has been a long-standing tradition that the incoming and outgoing president meet at the White House and travel to the Capitol together before the inauguration.Trump said, “certainly I will, you know that,” when asked if he would leave the White House on January 20.The president criticized Biden for beginning to fill out his prospective cabinet before taking office. The closure helps pave the way for dramatic changes at the Carriage Center shopping area.“I guess I’m not surprised. You see changes everywhere. It seems a shame that something that’s been here that long just can’t make it anymore," said David Spear, who lives nearby.10News has been tracking discussions between the new property owner and the tenants since 2018, when it first became clear that the owner had designs on removing the bowling alley and neighboring thrift stores on the land to make way for a new project.In October, the thrift stores learned their leases would not be renewed. Some have already closed. Others will be closing in the coming months.It is not clear yet what the owner plans to do with the property. An application has been filed with the city for a mixed-use project, but no formal plan has been pitched to the city council, according to one councilmember.Residents who spoke with 10News Thursday were torn. They cited two other major projects already approved within the next few blocks of Poway Road, expressing concern about growing traffic and the loss of Poway's "City in the Country" character. So we're very much going to put pressure on governors and everyone else to open the schools, to get them open and it's very important.”In Florida’s case, an exemption will be made for some students due to the spread of the coronavirus."Although it is anticipated that most students will return to full-time brick and mortar schools, some parents will continue their child's education through innovative learning environments, often due to the medical vulnerability of the child or another family member who resides in the same household," the order stated.In late June, the American Academy of Pediatrics said that schools should plan to fully reopen in the fall, but stated some exceptions should be granted for students who are high risk.While not saying that schools should require masks to be worn, the AAP recommended that mask-wearing be encouraged at schools, especially in situations where social distancing is not possible.In May, the CDC issued guidelines for schools to follow during the pandemic.
