WARNER SPRINGS, Calif. (KGTV) - Just ahead of Thanksgiving, a driver had a rare encounter with two wild turkeys on a highway in northeast San Diego County this week. Patrice Malloy was driving south on SR-79 to the community of Warner Springs Wednesday morning when she spotted the turkeys ahead of her on the road. “They were right in front of me; they wouldn’t move,” said Malloy. She slowed her Mini Cooper and honked, but that only attracted the birds’ attention. She grabbed her camera to get proof of the unusual confrontation. “There’s always wildlife,” Malloy said, noting this was her first experience with wild turkeys. “I’ve dodged quail…and there are coyotes.” Eventually, another car approached from behind, which drew the ire of the turkeys. Malloy used the opportunity to drive away, flashing her lights at other drivers to warn them about the wildlife hazard. Virginia Democratic Sen. Tim Kaine on Sunday said President Donald Trump continuing to blame Democrats for the lack of permanent protections for young undocumented immigrants is a break with reality."He is either lying or he is completely delusional," Kaine said on CNN's "State of the Union."Trump on Friday said Democrats were responsible for there being no permanent fix on the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, claiming, "The Democrats fought us, they just fought every single inch of the way. They did not want DACA in this bill."Kaine noted that then-President Barack Obama established the program, which has protected undocumented immigrants brought to the US as children from deportation, and that it is Trump who moved to end it."One person can save DACA," Kaine said. "If President Trump believes in DACA, all he has to do is retract his executive order from September where he broke a promise to Dreamers and said he was going to end the program."Trump has repeatedly railed against Democrats on DACA, with his comments on Friday coming as the latest such statement in a string of developments on the immigration program.Kaine said on Sunday that lawmakers would continue efforts to reach some kind of permanent shield for DACA recipients, but argued that without a consensus from the Republicans, a solution would require returning his party to power."We're going to keep looking for a solution, but the key is we do not have the support of the White House, we don't have the support of Republicans," Kaine said. WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump frequently credits himself with accomplishing more for the military and veterans than any other president in recent memory. But he has yet to embark on what has long been a traditional presidential pilgrimage important to the military: a visit to troops deployed in a war zone.As he departed Tuesday for Florida to spend the Thanksgiving holiday at his private club in Palm Beach, Trump said he'd soon correct the oversight."I'm going to a war zone," he said in response to a reporter's question about his support for the troops. He did not say when he would be making the trip or where he would be going. An official said a White House team recently returned from beginning to plan for a visit.Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said Wednesday that visiting a war zone is a decision for the president, while adding that there have been times in the past when he has advised against visits to "certain locations" to avoid security risks to the president and the troops."There's places that I've been very straightforward I don't want him to go at certain times," Mattis said. (KGTV) - Two Sheriff's deputies are under an internal review after video surfaced of an arrest in the North County this week.A 911 call was made Monday from a woman on Madera Lane, who said she was a domestic violence victim and being held against her will, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department. Deputies responded and said they ultimately arrested Gerardo Martinez Jr., 23, and 50-year-old Gerardo Martinez Sr.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodThe younger was booked on charges including false imprisonment, assault with a deadly weapon, and disobeying a court order. SDSO charged Martinez Sr. with obstructing a public officer and removing someone from the lawful custody of a peace officer, though he has bailed out of custody.Video of the arrest, however, soon landed at least two deputies involved with the arrest in hot water.The footage posted on social media showed one of the men being led away in handcuffs before a deputy appears to shove him into a fence. The man's face is slammed into the wooden fence before the deputy leads him away.At the same time, four other deputies hold the second man to the ground, one of them appears to repeatedly strike the man in the head. It isn't clear if the man on the ground was also handcuffed or whether the deputy struck the man with a closed fist or open hand.Two deputies have been placed on administrative assignment, pending an internal investigation, SDSO said Wednesday. Investigators will be looking at body-worn camera and interviews with those involved in the incident."As we continue to gather and evaluate the facts of this case, the internal review might change in scope. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) – A head-on collision at a Vista intersection left one driver dead and sent three others to the hospital, San Diego County sheriff’s officials said.The collision involving two vehicles happened just before 11 p.m. Thursday on West Vista Way at Copper Avenue.According to sheriff’s officials, a black Infiniti sedan was traveling westbound on West Vista Way when it collided head-on into a blue Chevrolet hatchback that was traveling eastbound on West Vista Way.The Chevrolet’s 51-year-old male driver died at the scene, while a passenger in the car was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.The Infiniti’s 22-year-old female driver was hospitalized with serious injuries, according to officials. A passenger in the Infiniti suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital for evaluation.The cause of the crash is under investigation, but officials believe alcohol was a factor in the collision. 935
