SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Amazon announced Tuesday it will create more than 200 new jobs in San Diego as part of a national expansion of its Tech Hubs.In a news release, company officials said plans are in place to expand offices in San Diego, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, New York, and Phoenix, which would lead to the potential addition of 3,500 new jobs.According to the company, there are more than 70 open tech and corporate roles in the San Diego area.With the addition of new tech and corporate jobs in San Diego, Amazon said it would add more than 40,000 square feet of office space near the UC San Diego campus.Some of the ventures being worked on at Amazon’s San Diego Tech Hub include games via Amazon Game Studios and a project that involves the launch of “Low Earth Orbit” satellites.Igor von Nyssen, Site Lead at the San Diego Tech Hub, said, “Amazon’s continued growth in our San Diego Tech Hub and the creation of these 200 new jobs is a testament to the strong and diverse pool of tech talent in this community. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A water main break flooded streets and cars in North Park Sunday morning. According to authorities, the break happened near University and Polk Avenue around 4 a.m. The water flowed down to Florida Drive and Pershing Drive where a driver got stuck in rising water, according to police. Police say the man is a doctor who was heading to work at the nearby Navy Medical Center and didn’t know how deep the water was. Crews on scene were able to get the man out of his car. He was uninjured. Crews were forced to shut down eight different valves to get the flow of water to stop. No homes or businesses were injured. 642

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A sea of purple covered Mission Bay Park as thousands showed up to ride, run and walk for epilepsy awareness.The event is Sharon's Ride, Run, Walk.  Sharon’s Ride was started by Dr. William Rosenfeld honor Dr. Rosenfeld’s sister, Sharon,  who was killed in a bicycle accident while bicycling cross country. She was also a nurse and teacher who cared deeply about epilepsy. Dr. Rosenfeld is the chairman of the event nationwide.   Participants could choose from a 15-mile bike ride or a 5k run or walk around Mission Bay.   The money raised benefits the Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County.   678

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An Amazon delivery driver was caught on video tossing a package onto a driveway like it was a newspaper, and the customer is not happy about it. “I order books. I’ve ordered Echos. I’ve ordered cameras on Amazon,” Del Cerro resident Yung Jun Kim said. He was worried someone might, one day, steal a package.“I ordered the ring camera to monitor the delivery,” Kim said “The first time the Amazon delivery happened on-camera, the driver drove into the driveway, didn’t even get out of his car, rolled down his window and threw my package onto the driveway."Kim found the package on the porch when he got home. What happened was also caught on video.“It was really great, because my mailman came by about 15 minutes later and he picked it up from the driveway and left it on my doorstep,” Kim said.Kim thinks the Amazon deliver driver threw his neighbor's package as well.“The video showed him pulling into her driveway for about 10 seconds and pulling back out. So, in that time, I don’t think he got out of a car and went into her courtyard and delivered it that way," Kim said. "He probably just threw it on the driveway."This time, Kim’s package was not fragile - but the driver didn't know that. Kim emailed Amazon and complained.“Customer service responded that same day, and they gave me a long apology and said they were going to look into it, which, I don’t know if they did," he said. "They also gave me a credit for my troubles."Kim says he hopes Amazon will get better drivers, because based on the video - they've got at least one with a negative attitude. "It takes very little effort to get out of the car to make a delivery onto a porch," Kim said. 10News reached out to Amazon. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A San Diego police officer shot a man during a response to an emergency call in a Rancho Penasquitos neighborhood Wednesday night, police officials said.SDPD officials said the incident happened around 7:30 p.m. in the 8500 block of Celtic Court, near Donaker Street. Officials confirmed officers were called to the area after a 911 call was made regarding a domestic violence incident.An SDPD official at the scene said, "The dispatcher could overhear the reporting party and the male on the radio call. She could hear the male talking about wanting to be shot by police officers and there was indication there was firearms inside of the house.”Police said when officers arrived, they found a 61-year-old man and his wife in front their home. When officers approached, the man “produced a revolver from his waistband” and started to draw the weapon towards officers. Officials said one officer fired a single round from his service weapon, striking the man in the torso.The injured man, identified on Friday as Richard Young, was breathing and talking while being taken to a local hospital, police said. Young underwent emergency surgery early Thursday morning, and police said Friday that Young "remains in a local hospital under guard."According to the department, officers recovered the man’s gun at the scene.The officers involved in the incident were placed on administrative leave in light of the investigation, which is being conducted by SDPD’s Homicide Unit.Officials identified the officer involved as Timothy Breck, a five-year veteran of the Department assigned to Northeastern Division.SDPD officials said: “When the Homicide Unit completes their investigation, it will be reviewed by the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office to determine if the officers bear any criminal liability for their actions.The Internal Affairs Unit will conduct an investigation to determine if there were any policy violations, and the Shooting Review Board will evaluate the tactics used by the officers.The Community Review Board on Police Practices will conduct a review of the incident and provide any appropriate recommendations.The Federal Bureau of Investigations and the United States Attorney’s Office will also be monitoring the investigation.” 2282
