SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Exercise has been one of the most effective stress relievers during the pandemic, but it has also been a challenge for some people to find a way to do it. That's where Mike Cothrine comes in. He started Mike's Fit Family about eight years ago to teach teachers free of charge about how to achieve a healthy body and healthy mind."A lot of these ladies had never exercised before in their life," he says. "A lot of them were just happy that somebody cared about them, cared enough to take care of them the way they take care of so many."The idea is to get teachers moving so they can do the same for their students.Mike says, "They started to really feel the power, and started feeling themselves and that energy translated to the kids."Preschool teacher Sofia Martinez who teaches at VIP Village Preschool in Imperial Beach has lived those positive effects."My stress levels were lower, it helped me sleep at night," and she says, "I went down from a size 12 to a size 6."Sofia says the kids love the workouts and while they catch on quickly, they're not the only ones."We saw the effects on the children in the classroom and then it was starting to trickle into the homes and the moms wanted to join," she says.Mike's approach is holistic. He also teaches stress relief and nutrition. When you meet him it becomes immediately clear why he's effective. He exudes energy and a half. He says his inspiration comes from his childhood in St. Louis. What his family lacked in means, they made up for in love. SAN DIEGO (KGTV and CNS) - One person was seriously hurt in an explosion during a cannabis oil extraction operation in the South Bay, police say. According to police, the incident happened around 7:30 p.m. Saturday night at a house near the intersection of Lieder Drive and Green Bay Street. One person was severely burned and was rushed to the hospital as a result of the explosion. The person hasn't been identified and it's not immediately clear if any arrests are being made.  503

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - With the fall school year quickly approaching, there are concerns some students will be left behind.Schools across the state worked to close the technology gap over the summer. However, the California Department of Education says more than 700,000 students still lack computing devices, and another 300,000 lack hotspots to connect to the internet.Even if all students have the right tools, will they participate?"For some people, they may find it challenging," said parent Frank Powell. "In my situation, I find it impossible."Powell is a father of three. His oldest child is 11 and has special needs. Powell said they haven't logged into a learning program at all this summer."It's good for some. For others, it's impossible, and for others, it's going to be extremely challenging," he said.Back in March, the headlines about distance learning were daunting.A Los Angeles Times article on March 30 stated, "About 15,000 Los Angeles high school students are absent online and have failed to do any schoolwork while more than 40,000 have not been in daily contact with their teachers since March 16, when the coronavirus forced campus shutdowns."A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Unified School District said the district did not take classroom attendance when schools initially closed. Instead, it made every effort to provide students with technology and get them connected to online instruction. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A bill created to improve warehouse working conditions has passed the state's Senate Labor Committee.Assembly Bill 3056, authored by Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez, ensures warehouse workers can take a restroom break, use a hand-washing station, drink water, or take a legally mandated break without fear of being fired.“We shouldn’t need to write a bill to make sure warehouse workers are able to take a restroom break or wash their hands without being reprimanded. But time and time again, Amazon has shown disregard for the safety of their workers -- even during this ongoing public health crisis,” Gonzalez said.AB 3056 not only applies to Amazon workers, but also to those who work at Target, Walmart, and other retailer warehouses.There has been an exponential rise in online sales leading to several companies adding automated systems to control the workflow.
