She is also concerned about her three kids too young to accept any bitter reality."I can't see the distressed faces of my children, I can't bear the fear that looms in their eyes, they know that with every coming day their mother is moving a step forward to death," Samina told Xinhua in a very low tone.When Samina and all other patients of that gloomy medical ward for breast cancer patients, in Nuclear Medicine Oncology and Radiography (NORI) hospital in Islamabad, were told that October is being observed as breast cancer awareness month they murmured that the awareness message should be reached to every nook and corner of the country this year so that no other woman would die due to unawareness.In a country like Pakistan where one in nine women is prone to breast cancer and around 40,000 women die every year due to lack of awareness of this disease. They come to visit oncology department of hospitals at a stage when the chances of survival are very remote.Omer Aftab, National Coordinator of the Pink Ribbon, said that Pakistan has the highest rate of breast cancer among Asian nations. BEIJING, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- The People's Bank of China, the country's central bank, said Wednesday that China will continue its prudent monetary policy next year while making the policy more targeted, flexible and forward-looking.The announcement came after the conclusion of the annual central economic work conference Wednesday morning, which has set economic policy guidelines for the coming year.The central bank will maintain control over the intensity, pace and focus of macroeconomic regulation, make full use of monetary tools, tune up credit supply and promote reasonable growth in social financing, according to a statement posted on its website.The bank will improve credit structure, increase support to key sectors and weak areas, especially to agriculture, small and medium-sized enterprises and affordable housing construction, as well as better serve the real economy.It will continue to perfect its yuan exchange rate formation mechanism, and keep the yuan exchange rates basically stable at a reasonable and balanced level.Meanwhile, the bank will strengthen and improve its foreign exchange management, deepen financial system reforms, prevent and solve financial risks, the statement said.

BEIJING, Dec. 17 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Zhou Yongkang has called for efforts to promote a police campaign aimed at better addressing public complaints.Zhou, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks in a written instruction on the campaign launched by the Ministry of Public Security on Friday.During the six-month campaign, police will be sent to more households to settle disputes and complaints or help solve public problems. Similar meetings were held in 1997, 2002 and 2007."China's economy has maintained stable and relatively fast growth with stabilized consumer prices and improvements in people's lives. The financial system is running steadily. BEIJING, Oct. 1 (Xinhua) -- China plans to decrease leprosy rates by 50 percent over the next 10 years, according to a joint plan to fight the infectious disease issued by the Ministry of Health and ten other ministerial-level institutions.The prevalence rate is targeted to be brought down to one case per 10,000 people by 2015. The rate will further shrink to one in every 100,000 people by 2020 in at least 98 percent of the country's counties, according to the plan.A total of 500,000 cases of leprosy have been reported and treated for free throughout the country since the founding of the People's Republic of China on Oct. 1, 1949.The number of leprosy cases has plummeted over the past 62 years, but the country still faces challenges in fighting the disease, the plan said.Leprosy, an infectious disease that has affected humanity for over 4,000 years, is primarily characterized by skin lesions and progressive physical debility, and can cause permanent nerve damage.Despite sustained efforts -- and considerable success -- in bringing the disease under control, leprosy is still a serious disease in some parts of China and people who have been cured of the disease continue to face discrimination.More than 1,700 new cases have been reported annually in the past five years. The provinces of Sichuan, Yunnan, Guizhou and Hunan and the Tibet Autonomous Region are most affected by the disease, according to the plan.
