BUCHAREST, Oct. 18 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping arrived here on Sunday to start his official visit to Romania after he concluded a visit to Hungary.     In a written statement upon his arrival at the airport, Xi said China and Romania have enjoyed long-term friendship, and they have enhanced political trust, cooperation in various areas, and coordination in dealing with international affairs since they forged diplomatic ties six decades ago.     Noting that the Chinese government values relations with Romania, Xi said his visit was to cement traditional friendship and reciprocal cooperation by taking the chance of 60th anniversary of bilateral ties. Chinese President Hu Jintao, who met with Putin on Wednesday, the last day of his visit, spoke highly of the development of the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination and the results of the 14th regular meeting between Putin and his Chinese counterpart.     Hu said China was willing to exert joint efforts with Russia and take the opportunities to further enhance political mutual trust, deepen pragmatic cooperation, especially cooperation on energy, high technology and culture, to elevate the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination to a new high. The two countries clinched an array of cooperation documents, including agreements and memorandums on natural gas, oil, an express railway, the space industry and nuclear energy.     Although the bilateral trade volume shrank, both sides' position in each other's foreign trade ties became more prominent and the trade structure is improving gradually. Progress has been made on investment cooperation and more joint projects such as lumber processing, resource exploitation and infrastructure construction have been carried out on Russian territories.     In particular, the two countries are pushing forward large-scale oil and gas projects in a steady manner. The launch of the China-Russia oil pipeline project marked a new stage of long-term and strategic cooperation in the oil sector. The two sides will also advance gas cooperation in accordance with a memorandum of understanding on gas cooperation reached in June.     Meanwhile, the two states are fulfilling an outline of regional cooperation between Northeast China and the Russian Far East Area and Eastern Siberia, which envisions prosperous cooperation between border regions.     The economies of China and Russia are mutually complementary and in a critical phase in development. As long as they plan from a long-term perspective, display their strengths and cooperate closely, they will overcome the current difficulties and realize a win-win situation.     BEEFED UP CULTURAL COOPERATION     On Tuesday, Putin and Wen attended an evening gala to mark the 60th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. They also celebrated the success of the Year of Russian Language in China. DAMASCUS, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem said Thursday that Syria is willing to enhance cooperation with China on the basis of mutual benefits.     Moallem made the pledge during a meeting with Wu Sike, China's Special Envoy to the Middle East, and both sides discussed bilateral relations and the latest situation in the Middle East region.     Wu reiterated that China supports Syria's commitment to achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the relevant UN resolutions. As the special representative of the Chinese Foreign Minister, he had visited Algeria and Qatar before reaching Syria.

BEIJING, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Serbian President Boris Tadic on Thursday pledged to promote economic and trade ties with China, welcoming Chinese investment.     Serbia wanted to maintain high-level political ties with China and enhance economic exchanges and cooperation, said Tadic at a business forum held by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). It is the first official visit by a Serbian head of state since Serbia became an independent state in 2006.

ANCHORAGE, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo on Saturday met with Alaska Governor Sean Parnell here before winding up his week-long official goodwill visit to the United States.     Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress, said he was glad to have Alaska as the final stop in his visit to the United States.     Apart from meeting with U.S. government and parliament officials, Wu said he also conducted comprehensive contacts with people from all walks of life in the U.S. during his stay.     The major topics included how to strengthen the Sino-U.S. cooperation, how to join hands to face challenges and how to realize common development of the two countries, Wu said. His trip to the United States was the first official visit to America by a top Chinese legislator in the past two decades.     Wu met with U.S. President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during the stay.     Before visiting the Unites States, Wu has visited Cuba and the Bahamas.
