While security at the convention itself is generally handled at the federal level, thousands of officers help secure the area around the venue.When the GOP convention was held in Cleveland in 2016, Cleveland Police had backup from agencies across the US. The officers provided security at protests, as well as surrounding events attended by delegates and surrogates.But with the event moving to Jacksonville on short notice, plans that take months to come together haven’t had a chance to crystalize."With less than 40 days until the expected Republican National Convention is slated to arrive in Jacksonville, I am compelled to express my significant concerns with the viability of this event,” Sheriff Mike Williams said on Monday. “It is my sole responsibility to provide safety, security for our city and more importantly for the citizens who I serve. So, with a growing list of challenges, be it financial, with communication, with the timeline, I cannot say with confidence that this event or our community will not be at risk."This year’s convention is expected to be scaled back from those in the past due to coronavirus concerns. on Facebook as their driver was seen speeding through the streets of Richmond.John Murray and Tameka Swann said they were picked up from their home just before 8 p.m. Monday for a night out on the town.But shortly after pulling away, they said someone rear-ended their Uber.“Our Uber attempted to pull over so that they exchange information, but the car didn’t stop behind us. They went around us and sped off, and that’s when our Uber sped off behind him,” Swann said.Murray began to stream their trip on Facebook Live from the backseat.“Nobody would’ve known that would’ve happened if I didn’t get that on camera,” he said.The video showed the Uber driver call 911 and hand his cell phone to Swann. The couple pleaded for the driver to stop as he sped through stoplights and stop signs.Video shows that the 911 dispatcher demanded the driver stop.“The driver won’t let us out. He’s trying to catch the guy because he hit us,” Swann told the dispatcher.The Uber driver then pulled onto West Broad Street and raced through several more red lights, according to the video.Then, the couple said an SUV crashed into the side of their car at West Broad Street and Arthur Ashe Boulevard. The video showed the driver continuing to speed away, narrowly missing a bicyclist.“I feel like he had tunnel vision. I feel like he didn’t focus on anything else,” Swann said.The driver eventually stopped at West Marshall Street and Hermitage Road, where they met an officer.“That was the scariest moment of my life,” Swann said. “I have never been that scared in my life. It was a nightmare.”“Richmond Police detectives are investigating a hit and run incident that happened around 8:15 p.m. last night near Arthur Ashe Boulevard and West Broad Street,” a Richmond Police spokesperson said. “We ask that anyone with information about the incident to call Hit and Run Detective G. YouTube Kids has struggled with disturbing videos, like beloved Disney characters in violent or sexual situations, sneaking past its automated filters.Now the app is adding new settings to give parents more control over what videos their kids can see.The company announced Wednesday an option to filter videos by "approved content only," so parents can whitelist channels and subjects.The effort comes four months after reports called attention to troves of videos with inappropriate themes on the video-sharing site's kid-friendly platform. Content for YouTube Kids is selected from the main YouTube app and screened using machine learning algorithms. But some videos, such as cartoons disguised as age appropriate, slip through the cracks.Once the new setting is turned on, users can pick collections from trusted creators such as PBS and Kidz Bop, or themed collections curated by YouTube Kids itself.YouTube is launching another tool later this year that will let parents choose every video or channel their kid can see in the app."While no system is perfect, we continue to fine-tune, rigorously test and improve our filters for this more open version of our app. And, as always, we encourage parents to block and flag videos for review that they don't think should be in the YouTube Kids app," the company said in a blog post announcing the new features.It's the kind of control parents have been asking for from the popular app, but it also puts the onus on them to filter content. It's possible this safety guard isn't sufficient for catching every odd video your kid might see.The flag-the-video-later system has created some problems for the service. Some YouTube creators have uploaded concerning videos marked as kids content that slips past the screening process.
