SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diego Police searched Friday for a very tall man who robbed a Hillcrest bank with a semi-automatic handgun. The man walked into the California Bank and Trust at 3737 Fifth Avenue about 9:15 a.m., police said. Officers said the man demanded money from a teller who gave him cash, then he ran from the bank. A witness said the man dropped some of the money as he fled the area. No injuries were reported. Police said the man is black, 6’5” tall, and 220 pounds. He was last seen wearing a fisherman's hat, dark sunglasses, a dark colored hoodie, and khaki pants. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Unified School District officials confirmed to 10News Thursday that a teacher has been placed on leave while investigators look into accusations that he exposed a sixth-grade class to pornography.Officials said they were first notified Monday after a parent reported the alleged incident happened during a physical education class at Horace Mann Middle School, located at 4345 54th Street in San Diego."San Diego Unified is investigating the incident that allegedly occurred at Mann Middle School. The employee has been placed on leave pending the investigation,” district officials said.The district said it has spoken with at least 10 students regarding the report. There were at least 24 students in the class.District officials and district police are investigating."It's reprehensible," Craig Tinson, whose 12-year-old grandson attends the school, said. "Becuase the students are very impressionable. They're looking for adults to be the leader and unfortunately, it was compromised on this occasion."A parent of one of the students told 10News that her son was in the class when the teacher allegedly showed the students an adult video of a man and woman engaged in sexual activities. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University is suspending spring 2020 programs to Italy amid the spread of the novel coronavirus. The university said in an update to students Monday that it was calling all students studying abroad in Italy back to the United States. The decision was made due to the elevated level three travel advisories the CDC and State Department issued for the country. RELATED: UC San Diego, SDSU cancel South Korea study abroad programs due to coronavirus“With the exception of study abroad programs in China, South Korea and Italy, SDSU remains open and classes will continue as usual,” the university said. At the moment, the university doesn’t have any plans to cancel classes. University officials say they won’t make such plans unless directed by the San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency. In late February, both San Diego State University and UC San Diego canceled study abroad programs in South Korea amid the spread of coronavirus. 987

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- SeaWorld San Diego’s newest ride is shut down for maintenance, according to Cal/OSHA.According to the agency, Tidal Twister was shut down June 1, roughly two weeks after its opening on May 24. The ride was shut down to address mechanical issues. Cal/OSHA says SeaWorld is working with the manufacturer to repair the ride. The ride recently opened as SeaWorld works to complete more rides in the San Diego park. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Several San Diegans are celebrating after catching a more than 300 pound Tuna off the San Diego Coast. The biggest catch, a 321 bluefin tuna, was caught by San Diego local Andy Khwa and Robbie Ortiz from Santa Barbara.The massive catch happened during a three-day trip aboard the Aztec Sportfishing’s Aztec vessel. We were on a 3 Day trip with 24 passengers and caught over 400 bluefin and Yellowfin. Our standouts were 321 pound, 298 pound, and 292 pound Bluefin tuna,” Captain Greg Gawitt said.“We broke our personal record of a 311 pound bluefin in 2017. The smile on our passengers faces was priceless! We are headed back out this morning and can’t wait to do it again."This isn’t the first time fishermen aboard the vessel made a record-breaking catch.
