LEMON GROVE, Calif. (KGTV) -- Two men were arrested Monday after the San Diego Sheriff’s Department says they reportedly beat a man with a metal pipe in Lemon Grove. Deputies say they received a call about a man bleeding in the street around 10:43 a.m. Monday at the 7200 block of Pacific Avenue. After arriving, police found the 43-year-old mad lying on the sidewalk with a head wound. Witnesses told deputies four men in a light-blue vehicle chased the victim to the location and beat him with a “long stick, and a metal pipe.”After contacting a group of men associated with the vehicle, a 25-year-old man identified as Terrell Millard admitted to the assault. Deputies say he was booked into jail. A 15-year-old also admitted to the assault. Deputies say he was charged and released. 795

LINCOLN PARK (KGTV) - For the first time, a member of the drill team at Lincoln High School recalls the moments she was called the N-word at Friday night's football game in San Clemente. Lillian Mixon is a sophomore at Lincoln High School and she tells 10News, "A group of us were walking to the bathroom during halftime and a little boy asked me if I do flag or twirl, and I told him no, I dance, I do drill, and he responded with the N-word." Mixon says it happened again on her way back from the restroom, "I was confused and I was like did she say the N-word to me because this is a grown woman." Immediately, Mixon says, she told two security guards at the game about what happened, "I told the security guard that they were saying racial things to us and the guy looked at me and didn’t respond he just looked and turned away." Meanwhile, Orange County Sheriffs Department released a statement on social media that reads in part, "At the game an individual told deputies that the San Clemente Middle School students were on the visitor side being rowdy and obnoxious and deputies removed them from the area." They went on to say there was no mention of inappropriate language or hate speech. After the game, following normal protocal, Lincoln High athletes and coaches were escorted back to their buses. Mixon says when she got back to the bus she felt awful, "I felt awful after the game and I had to keep it together. After the game I told myself things like this happen but they never happen to me." LA MESA (CNS) - A 41-year-old man was behind bars Wednesday on suspicion of driving under the influence when he struck and seriously injured a pedestrian at a La Mesa intersection, police said.The collision happened around 6:15 p.m. Tuesday at the intersection of Grossmont Center Drive and Center Drive, La Mesa Police Lt. Brian Stoney said.A man was attempting to cross eastbound on Grossmont Center Drive within a marked crosswalk, but he did not have the right-of-way when he started crossing against a "do not walk" signal, Stoney said.At the same time, a man driving a 2004 Nissan SUV was heading eastbound on Center Drive and ran a red light when he turned right onto Grossmont Center Drive and struck the pedestrian, the lieutenant said.The victim -- believed to be in his 50s -- was taken to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries, including a fractured lower right leg and a fractured hip, Stoney said, adding that the man did not have identification on him and officers were unable to identify him Tuesday night.Investigators arrested the SUV driver, 41-year-old Brandon Michael West of Poway, on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs causing serious bodily injury.West is on probation for a previous DUI and has prior drug and alcohol- related arrests, Stoney said.He was booked into San Diego Central Jail and was being held in lieu of 0,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Friday afternoon. 1441

LAKESIDE (CNS) - A neighbor helped a 76-year-old woman to safety from a house fire today, authorities said.At 10:31 a.m., San Diego County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to a residential structure fire in the 11400 block of Pinehurst Drive, according to Sgt. Greg Hampton.No other structures were threatened and the fire was extinguished shortly after deputies and fire personnel arrived, Hampton said.The woman suffered from minor burns and smoke inhalation and paramedics took her to UC San Diego Medical Center, the sergeant said.Sheriff's bomb and arson detectives responded to the scene to determine the cause of the fire. 644

LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - People from all over the world come to La Jolla Cove for its beauty, its water and to get an up-close look at the seals and sea lions living on the rocks. The two eyesores they don't come to see, however, are impossible to miss. "I suddenly turned around and saw these two structures and said, 'whoa! How'd that happen?" said Rich Heleniak, who was visiting the Cove on a recent Friday. Heleniak was referring to cottages called Red Roost and Red Rest. Built in 1894, they are the oldest structures still on their original location in La Jolla. At first glance, it's easy to see they have been crumbling for decades."They've been vandalized over the years, bricks have been thrown, there was an arson fire," said Corey Levitan, a journalist for the La Jolla Light newspaper who has tracked the cottages for years. The cottages were designated historic in 1976, meaning former owner Jack Heimburge could not redevelop them into apartments. Instead, he neglected them until his death in 1998. Heimburge also owned the La Jolla Cove Hotel and Suites next door, so his motivation to ignore them was up for debate. "There was never enough money to take care of the cottages properly," Levitan said. "Then again, this guy owned the hotel, I think there was enough money to take care of the cottages properly."In his will, Heimburge split the ownership of the cottage among his heirs.A multi-year legal battle over what to do with them settled in 2018, clearing a key road block to revamping the cottages. "Take the original structure and rebuild the outside, and they've got carte blanche on the inside to do whatever they want, right?" said Catherine Oborne, a tourist who stopped to see the cottages. The parent company of Cove Properties Inc., which also owns the Cove Hotel and Suites next door, did not return messages seeking comment.The group has retained La Jolla architect Alcorn Benton to design the project. The firm declined to comment, saying the owner is currently reviewing the alternatives and that the schedule is not yet finalized. The cottages were originally called the Neptune Bungalows.
