SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - With the March 2020 Presidential Primary approaching, the San Diego Registrar of Voters is urging everyone to make sure they are registered properly."This one election is the most complex elections for administrators like ourselves and voters that are out there," says Registrar Michael Vu.With six political parties holding presidential primaries, plus the dozens of overlapping state and local district elections, Vu expects to create more than 12,000 unique versions of the ballot. Rules on who can vote in each party make it even more complicated.In December, Vu's office sent out more than 500,000 mailers to voters to make sure they know the options.Anyone registered with a specific party will only be allowed to vote in that party's primary. Republicans will vote for the Republican candidates, Democrats for Democrats and so on.But, right now more then 30 percent of registered voters in San Diego are listed as "No-Party Preference."For those people, they can choose to vote in the primary for American Independent, Democrat, or Libertarian parties. They cannot vote in the Republican, Green, or Peace and Freedom parties."It makes it a little more confusing," says Vu. "Something that voters need to know what political party status they are in. And if it’s different from the presidential candidates they want to vote for, they need to register or re-register now."To help voters navigate their options, the Registrar has set up a website where people can get all the information they need.The deadline to choose a party, or to choose which primary you want to vote in, is January 6."If you’re a non-partisan voter, now is the time to act," says Vu. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — University of San Diego is sidelining its plans to return to some form of on-campus classes this fall unless given approval by state and local officials.A statement from USD President James Harris read that due to the rising number of cases locally and in California, as well as the lack of reopening guidance for colleges, they will offer remote learning for all fall undergraduate and graduate courses.The undergraduate semester is still set to begin on Aug. 17, according to the school."At the time of my original announcement, the number of daily cases of COVID-19 in San Diego County was approximately 100, and given the shut-down order then in place, we were optimistic the situation would be much improved by the Fall," Harris' statement read. "Instead, the number of daily cases skyrocketed, and San Diego is now averaging more than 400 cases per day."With less than a month to go before we begin Fall classes for undergraduates, we have reached the point where a final decision has to be made."Originally, the campus planned to offer in-person courses as part of a hybrid approach to the academic year. USD says it can still pivot to the planned hybrid model if conditions improve. The school added that the campus will also continue to offer students options for remote or in-person classes when they receive permission to move forward with the plan."The good news is that all of the great work of the task forces preparing for the Fall will benefit us as we move forward. Due to their continuing efforts, we are prepared to pivot to our planned hybrid approach of both in-person and remote instruction when conditions improve and allow us to do so," according to USD. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - What looks like a fire zone on a busy Ocean Beach street is a fraud, the City of San Diego confirmed to 10News Wednesday. The red curb at Abbott Street and Santa Monica Avenue got the attention of neighbors. Diana Webster has lived in the community for 66 years and said people have been getting active with spray paint. “On Friday, five scooters were parked in there and on Saturday, somebody had painted black where all the scooters should be parked. Sounds like there is some suspicious activity with spray cans, I guess so,” Webster said. “I think it’s pretty crazy someone got away with it,” said a neighbor identified as Rodrigo. The city said illegal red curbing happens regularly in parking-dense areas and the best way to take care of it is to report it through their Get It Done app. If the paint looks different than a typical red curb, it’s likely illegal, the city said. 910
