The Trump administration identified 471 parents who were removed from the United States without their children and "without being given the opportunity to elect or waive reunification," according to the latest court filing in an ongoing lawsuit,The revelation came in a filing in the family separation lawsuit Ms. L et al. vs. Immigration and Customs Enforcement et al. The administration has previously acknowledged that parents were removed without their children, but the latest report provides an updated count -- which had been requested by the American Civil Liberties Union to serve as a baseline to better track reunifications. The ACLU filed the case against the Trump administration last year on behalf of a Congolese woman, referred to as "Ms. L," who was seeking asylum in the US and was separated from her 7-year-old daughter. The case was later expanded to a class-action lawsuit.District Judge Dana Sabraw issued a preliminary injunction last June blocking most family separations at the US-Mexico border and ordering that those already separated be reunited.Wednesday's court filing notes that since the preliminary injunction was issued, the government has worked with a steering committee regarding the status of deported parents who have children remaining in federal care. The ACLU helped lead the committee, which reached out to all the parents who had been deported. The filing also includes the latest numbers on reunifications. As of Monday, 2,741 of 2,816 children have been discharged from government care, up six since the Feb. 20 status report. Four children are "proceeding towards reunification or other appropriate discharge," according to the filing. 1691

The threat of record flooding has areas of the central United States on alert after more than a week of extreme weather that has brought with it tornadoes, fierce winds and heavy rains.Spring storms have resulted in five deaths in Missouri, one in Iowa and six in Oklahoma. In Indiana, a 4-year-old boy is missing after strong currents from heavy rains swept him away.CNN Meteorologist Robert Shackelford said 3.6 million people were under a flash flood watch, and 1.3 million under a severe thunderstorm watch overnight Sunday, with nearly 50 million at risk of severe weather impacts on Monday."Severe thunderstorms are continuing along the central High Plains, bringing damaging winds and the possibility for a few tornadoes, but these systems will weaken throughout the night," he said.Shackelford said the Arkansas River is experiencing record flooding, with one site at Van Buren already over 38 feet -- the record set in 1945 -- and an expected crest at 42.5 feet late Tuesday into early Wednesday.Tulsa levees under strain, record flooding expectedOklahoma and other parts of the Midwest are still reeling from a deadly spring storm system that has resulted in more than 170 reported tornadoes plus strong winds, flash flooding and hail.In Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Army Corps of Engineers said it was increasing the release of water at Keystone Dam to 265,000 cubic feet per second (CFS) Sunday evening and to 275,000 CFS Monday morning "with the expectation to leave it at this level through Thursday.""Due to the additional release at Keystone Dam, flood water is expected to rise and residents and businesses along the Arkansas River must remain vigilant and take precautions based on the new data available," 1728

The Trump administration is proposing a rollback of nutrition guidelines for school meals that had been promoted by Michelle Obama as part of her campaign to combat child obesity. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue says the rule changes are needed to give schools more flexibility and reduce waste while still providing nutritious and appetizing meals. But child nutrition advocates say the change will result in fewer fruits and vegetables and more fries, pizza and other unhealthy foods in the meals served at school. Perdue announced the proposed rule on Obama's birthday. 587

The President's former lawyer Michael Cohen testified Wednesday that Donald Trump directed him to "threaten" Trump's high school, colleges and the College Board to not release his educational records."When I say conman, I'm talking about a man who declares himself brilliant but directed me to threaten his high school, his colleges and the College Board to never release his grades or SAT scores," Cohen told the House Oversight Committee during a public hearing. Cohen provided the committee with copies of a letter he said he sent at Trump's direction "threatening these schools with civil and criminal actions if Mr. Trump's grades or SAT scored were ever disclosed without his permission."In a copy of a letter Cohen gave to the committee and obtained by CNN, Cohen wrote in May 2015 to Fordham University, where Trump studied before transferring to the University of Pennsylvania. In the letter, Cohen notes that "several media outlets have asked for the release" of Trump's records and that they turned them down."(If) in the event any of his records are released or otherwise disclosed without his prior written consent, we will hold your institution liable to the fullest extent of the law including damages and criminality," the letter reads. "As you are again no doubt aware, this notice applies to any and all of The College Board's employees, agents, third parties, vendors and any other person or entity acting for or on its behalf."Cohen added in his testimony that "(the) irony wasn't lost on me at the time that Mr. Trump in 2011 had strongly criticized President (Barack) Obama for not releasing his grades," adding that he also provided the committee with a 2011 news article he says shows that Trump "declared 'Let him show his records' after calling President Obama 'a terrible student.'" 1821
