MILWAUKEE -- Six cars were damaged Friday when light poles fell across traffic lanes on I-43 near Milwaukee.According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office, the driver of a red pick-up truck heading northbound hit both of the light poles in the median just before 3:30 p.m. A witness at a law firm off Hampton Avenue said she saw the truck drive up onto the median and hit one pole, before continuing on to hit a second. "Unfortunately one of them kind of struck the side of the car, put a hole in the door, took a mirror out," said Jim Lovering, whose daughter called him after swerving to avoid the two poles.Lovering's 7-month-old grandson was also in the car. "Just missed the windshield, which was a blessing," said Lovering. The camera caught deputies taking away the driver of the red truck in handcuffs. Authorities have not yet released any information confirming an arrest, or possible charges. The accident caused backups for miles during rush hour, as crews worked to remove the poles from the roadway. No one in any of the cars was injured. "It was just nice that she had the space to maneuver and without hitting anybody else or causing any further damage," said Lovering. "It could be potentially you know a serious accident. Thank God it didn't happen."  1341

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — Pregnant women in the healthcare industry are wondering if they should get the COVID-19 vaccine since it's available to them following the emergency use authorization.At Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Dr. Jennifer Thompson, an associate professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, said the risks associated with getting COVID-19 while pregnant are far worse than the risks associated with the vaccine. Thompson said, "They have increased risk of hospitalization, need for ICU, mechanical ventilation, and a slight increase risk in death compared to non-pregnant patients." She said her recommendation pertains to the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines for her patients who are pregnant, or trying to get pregnant. “So because of that increased risk, women who are pregnant are considered a higher risk group, and so therefore many of our organizations the CDC, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine recommend that the COVID-19 vaccine should not be withheld from pregnant individuals who meet criteria for vaccination based on their recommended priority group,” Thompson said.Dr. Thomspon practices what she preaches. "I actually received my vaccine on Friday, so I’m not concerned at this point about the long-term safety data," Thompson said. She noted that she’s had no side effects yet.While pregnant women were excluded from the trials, some women joined not knowing they were pregnant. Dr. Thompson said they’ve been following those cases closely. "These numbers are really small, but we have not seen significant adverse reactions both from a pregnancy standpoint or a fetal standpoint," Thompson said.Unfortunately, there's a lot of misinformation out there. There was an article circulating online which said the vaccine could cause infertility. Dr. Thompson said there’s no evidence to support that. "There’s some concern that the spike protein has a similar genetic makeup to one of the proteins in the placenta, however that similarity is less than 1%, and infertility has not been found from any of the scientific data," Thompson said. In addition, the COVID-19 vaccine is believed to be safe for women who are breast-feeding. Live vaccines are not recommended for pregnant women, but the COVID-19 vaccine is not live. “It’s an mRNA vaccine which is broken down by the body, and not incorporated into your DNA at all,” Thompson said, “Fetal risks are thought to be low due to the fact that the mRNA is broken down by your circulation and pre-clinical studies have been very reassuring.”If you have questions, talk to your doctor. NASHVILLE, Tennessee — A 22-year-old man was killed in a shooting at Opry Mills Mall, which caused chaos for shoppers inside.First responders initially answered a call of an active shooter in the mall, which prompted a heavy police presence, but they learned the call was not accurate once at the scene.The shooting happened inside the mall in a hallway near the Auntie Anne's pretzel shop across from Old Navy around 2:23 p.m. The victim was taken to Skyline Medical Center in critical condition where he later died.According to police officials, a dispute at the mall between two men ended in gunfire. The suspected shooter ran from the mall to a ticketing booth outside. He placed his gun on the booth counter and told the people inside to call 911. He then surrendered to police once they arrived.There was no additional imminent threat known. Both he and the victim are 22 years old and from Nashville.Some Metro Nashville Public Schools were placed on lockout for a short time including Two River’s Middle School, Pennington Elementary School, McGavock Elementary School, Stanford Montessori and Litton Middle School. It has since been lifted.Three students were still at the Academy at Opry Mills when the shooting happened and were able to get out and taken to McGavock High School.Opry Mills Mall spans 1,154,000 square feet with more than 200 stores. It also includes nine sit-down restaurants.Officials said it appeared to have been an ongoing dispute that prompted the shooting. The identities of the victim and suspect have not yet been released.Customers inside the mall were told to stay put and away from the entrances.They said the mall was being swept by officers as a precaution. Police evacuated Bass Pro, Johnny Rockets, the food court and other areas.The Gaylord Opryland Hotel, was placed on lockdown when the shooting occurred, but it has since been lifted. 1974
