SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A towering geyser sent water and debris into the sky near Torrey Pines Tuesday, prompting traffic issues near busy construction.The geyser erupted around 11 a.m. on Genesee Avenue just west of Interstate 5. All lanes of traffic on Genesee Ave. were shut down in both directions.Public Utilities Department crews were able to shut off the water just before 12 p.m.10NEWS TRAFFIC CONDITIONSA city official told 10News a Caltrans contractor hit a 6-inch blowoff valve connected to a 30-inch water main.No one in the area lost water and it was put back into service around 1:30 p.m.Caltrans says the construction is part of the pedestrian bridge being built over Genesee. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A surveillance system caught a man breaking into a College Area Thai Restaurant and stealing hundreds of dollars in cash and tech equipment. 10News met with Chira Svangvitaya, owner of "Sala Thai." She has been serving dishes from her homeland to the San Diego community for almost 30 years. But when she opened the store on Halloween morning, she found her store in shambles. “I saw all the things all over the floor," Svangvitaya said. MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodHer surveillance cameras captured the break-in just before 7 a.m.  A man crept in through the back door, ran through the dining area while pulling up his hood, then headed straight to the front counter. He took 0 in cash, five tablets, and a laptop before tiptoeing out the back door. "He was like a pro," she said. “In and out in less than five minutes.”While the stolen money was substantial, the absence of the tablets hurt her most.“I have Uber Eats. Grub Hub, Postmates, Door Dash, Amazon, and Yelp," she said.She said 30 percent of her sales come solely from deliveries, which means she is losing out on a lot of customers. But she said there is a silver lining to this. What the thief may not know, is that the tablets' only function is food delivery. The resale value is unsubstantial. They all come with serial numbers, which she hopes the police and delivery companies use to track them and the thief down. “I just want them [the police] to catch the guy. According to the San Diego Gas and Electric outage map, 1774 people in Old Town, Mission Hills and Hillcrest were affected by the outage. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego professor is one of 55 people to make up California’s Electoral College for the 2020 election. Peter Bolland is the Chair of the Philosophy and Humanities Department at Southwestern College. He’s been at the school for 30 years and during that time taught Ammar Campa-Najjar, who is the person who selected him to become an elector.California gets 55 electors because of the 53 congressional districts and two senators. Electors are chosen by the party’s nominee who won the popular vote. Campa-Najjar got the most votes for Congress’ 50th District primary election in 2020, making him the person to choose the elector. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A vandal targeted at least a dozen vehicles at a popular shopping center in University City on Friday, flattening tires across one of the parking lots."It's very upsetting," said Camille Bsaibes.Bsaibes showed 10news a Toyota RAV4 with a flat tire. The vehicle belongs to his son. Bsaibes, who owns Amardeen restaurant, located in the Renaissance Towne Centre, experienced his own flat tire Friday while driving his van. Bsaibes didn't notice it until he was one the road."When I was driving, I was shaking ... wondering why it was shaking," said Bsaibes.Bsaibes pulled over and found three of his tires flat. His total bill to replace tires? Nearly 0. That day, three of his employees also felt their tires go flat as they were driving home from work. They were all parked in the same back lot. It was a similar story for four employees of the L-Transformation beauty boutique. In all, at least 12 vehicles from 4 of the businesses were hit in one day. It happened in broad daylight at the busy shopping center, sometime between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m."The tire shop said somebody used a long, sharp object and punctured the side of the wheel," said Bsaibes.The flat tires weren't immediately obvious and didn't become a problem until the vehicle were on the road.
