(KGTV) — The woman who charged in to danger to save horses from the San Luis Rey Training Center during the Lilac Fire was honored Saturday.It was “Two Hail Marys” that crossed the finish line first. But the real winner at Saturday’s Pacific Classic was Martine Bellocq.In front of a roaring crowd, Bellocq received the prestigious 15th Laffit Pincay Jr. award. Her recognition stems from her heroics during the Lilac Fire."The award is that you have to serve the industry with integrity, distinction, dedication, and honor," Mack McBride, with the Del Mar Fairgrounds, said. DETROIT, Mich. - Halloween activities, like costume parties and trick-or-treating, will look much different this year because of the pandemic. Some families might be looking for new traditions like going from house to house checking out Halloween decorations at a safe distance.There is one home in Grosse Pointe Farms that is a must-see.For 24 years, Mark Van Sile and his wife go all out for Halloween. Their home sits on the corner of Lake Shore Drive and Moross Road. With thousands of LED lights and tons of spooky decorations, it has become an attraction!“It means more to people this year than in the past because it is a sign of normalcy,” Mark said.He puts up the lights and decorations himself. He’s in real estate and construction and rents equipment. Mark says it takes 80 hours to decorate about ,000 worth of props and lights.Every year, the Vane Sile couple would dress up and pass out full-size candy bars to 1,400 trick-or-treaters. But because of the pandemic, they are keeping safe and won’t be hosting trick-or-treaters.This year, people are welcome to walk up the driveway and check out all the spooky sights at a safe distance.“People are truly enthusiastic about it,” Mark said.It is not just Halloween, they go big on Independence Day and Christmas.Mark has so many decorations, he built his own storage room. The homeowner is so festive, he was featured in a Valero Energy commercial for putting up half a million lightsMark says he’s happy when all of his efforts bring smiles and lasting memories for little ones.“When you have Halloween decorations, you have Christmas decorations, it’s for everybody to enjoy," he said. "Take a step back, relax. DENVER, Colo. — Colorado prosecutors have filed attempted murder charges against a pickup driver who they believe intentionally veered across several lanes of traffic and struck a motorcyclist.Investigators from the Colorado State Patrol say the victim, Quentin Quidley, his brother, James, and several friends were traveling south on I-25 near Castle Rock when the incident happened back on Aug. 16.Quidley told KMGH they were traveling south through Colorado after a trip to Sturgis, South Dakota. The pickup driver wouldn't let them pass."There was nothing in front of him, (but) he wasn't going to yield," Quidley said. "He floored on the gas and tried to clip us then."The riders eventually got in front of the pickup driver, but he caught up with them.Dash cam video from Gil Steiner shows the pickup veering across several lanes of traffic, then striking Quidley's motorcycle."As I started to tumble, the first thing (I thought) was, here comes that ground and it's going to hurt," he said.Quidley recounted the traumatic encounter with the Ford F-250 during a Webex interview set up by his attorney."I was trying to pull it out of a death wobble," he said.Investigators told KMGH they didn't buy the pickup driver's claim that he simply made an unsafe lane change."We feel very strongly that we can prove in court that this was an intentional act," said Major J.P. Burt, of the Colorado State Patrol.Injury Attorney Brian Calandra, at Ramos Law, said he hopes the crash wasn't intentional."We hope there aren't people out there on Colorado streets intentionally trying to take out folks on motorcycles," Calandra said.The pickup driver, 38-year-old Alberto Mota, was charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted first-degree murder with extreme indifference, vehicular assault, four counts of felony menacing, violation of bail bond condition, child abuse, four counts of reckless endangerment, and driving under restraint. 1975

(KGTV) - The Flower Hill Promenade in Del Mar is helping restaurants in its parking spaces by creating extra outdoor dining space.Milton's, a restaurant and deli in the shopping center, opened up a new outdoor area by covering up parking spaces with turf and tents and setting tables and chairs. That area opened up this week after new health orders forced restaurants to close their indoor dining areas due to rising coronavirus case numbers.Owner Barry Robbins says that they are also working on building a lounge area with a big-screen TV. With fans not allowed at the Del Mar horse track this season due to the pandemic, Robbins is hopeful their proximity to the race track will attract horse racing fans."We want to create a lounge, and put up a tv, and show the races there," he said. "Then you'll have more a night time venue with music, which we've never done before."Rose Javin, the General Manager at Flower Hill Shopping Center, says the outdoor dining spaces are an investment in their clients. Another restaurant in the Flower Hill Promenade, Cucina Enoteca, also recently rolled out turf and put up tents to create a comfortable outdoor setting for their customers. They are currently working with a third client to see if they can help them."The shopping center has put up the money to do all this and create this area for the tenant," Javin said. "We're a family here, and we want our tenants to thrive and survive."Robbins says they were hard-hit by the pandemic. When restaurants were allowed to reopen, Robbins says they invested thousands of dollars in putting up glass dividers inside the restaurant. Still, they were only open for two weeks before they had to shut their indoor area again.Robbins says having the outdoor space is a relief."It means sleeping at night. I was so scared," he said. "I think we really have a chance, and it could be better than ever." 1910
