FUZHOU, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- A minibus rolled over and fell into a reservoir in Shaowu City in southeast China's Fujian Province Friday afternoon, killing 10, local officials said early Saturday morning.Nine people were rescued, and two were still missing.The minibus bound for Shaowu from Yong'an lost control at 5:27 p.m. Friday when the driver apparently tried to avoid a motorbike. It fell into the Qianling Hydropower Station reservoir, according to officials with Nanping city government.About 200 police and rescuers were still looking for the missing people, and the investigation into the accident is underway.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Major trading partners of the United States, including China, did not manipulate their currencies to gain an unfair advantage in international trade in 2010, according to a report released by the U.S Treasury Department on Friday."Based on the resumption of exchange rate flexibility last June and the acceleration of the pace of real bilateral appreciation over the past few months," China's behavior did not qualify under the official definition of manipulation, the Treasury said in its long-delayed semiannual report to the Congress on International Economic and Exchange Rate Policies.With respect to exchange rate policies, ten economies were reviewed in this report, accounting for nearly three-fourths of U. S. trade. Many of the economies have fully flexible exchange rates. A few have more tightly managed exchanges rates, with varying degrees of management."No major trading partners of the United States" met the standards identified by the Congress as currency manipulator, concluded the report.Since the June 19, 2010 announcement by China's central bank of greater exchange rate flexibility, its currency, also known as renminbi (RMB) has appreciated 3.7 percent against the dollar, or about 6 percent annualized. The renminbi has appreciated 26 percent in total against the dollar since 2005.The Treasury said that because inflation in China is significantly higher than it is in the U.S., the RMB has been appreciating more rapidly against the dollar on a real, inflation- adjusted basis, at a rate which if sustained would amount to more than 10 percent per year.The U.S. accuses Beijing of keeping its currency undervalued, flooding the country with cheap exports and costing U.S. jobs. BEIJING, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- China's railways transported about 77.34 million passengers during the fifteen days (Jan. 19 to Feb. 2) before the Spring Festival, the Ministry of Railways said.The figure was about 9.5 percent higher than the same period last year and set a new record, according to a report posted on the ministry's website.There were an average of 5.16 million passengers per day, up 448,000 from the same period last year. On Jan. 29, passengers topped 5.78 million, setting a new record for daily transportation before the Spring Festival, the report said.In the fifteen days before the festival, about 4.80 million passengers left Beijing, 8.39 million left Guangzhou and 5.69 million left Shanghai, while year-on-year growth and those leaving Guangzhou rose the most, up 15 percent year on year, said the report.The ministry said challenges still exist as more snow and rain will hit southern China after the Spring Festival, when passengers are returning.China's busy Spring Festival transportation season runs for 40 days and is calculated in two phases: 15 days before the Spring Festival and 25 days after the Spring Festival, the report explained.

JERUSALEM, April 12 (Xinhua) -- Israeli-Canadian archaeologist Simcha Jacobovici may have stumbled upon a major archaeological find if his claim of unearthing the nails used to hold Jesus on the cross during his crucifixion are to be believed.Jacobovici maintains that small metal remains dug out of the soil in a cave in a Jerusalem neighborhood are in fact the nails that held Jesus on the cross, the Ha'aretz daily reported Tuesday.The artifacts were found in a cave in the Armon Hanatziv ridge, about 6 km south of the Old City, during the course of a construction work in 1990. The hilly area now contains apartment buildings.During the excavation of the cave, a stone vessel with the name Caiaphas, the name of the High Priest considered responsible for turning Jesus over to the Romans, and two rusty nails, which Jacobovici believes to be the relics, was unearthed.However, officials from the Israeli Antiquities Authority told Xinhua although they regard Jacobovici as a great archaeologist and documentary filmmaker, they do not believe the cave really belongs to the High Priest of the Second Temple period (between 536 BC and 70 AD)."The reason is that during that period of time there were a lot of people with the name Caiaphas," a statement from the Antiquities Authority said, "And for example, it is inconceivable that every gravestone bearing the name Moshe Dayan, which is very common in these parts, should be ascribed to the same personality who played so prominent a role in our recent history."Dayan was an Israeli army general who led his troops to victory in the 1967 war.The authority considers Jacobovici's contention as "fantasy" that should not be considered conclusive, since there is no agreed- upon evidence backing it up.Jacobovici is standing his ground, however, and contends that during the Second Temple Period the name Caiaphas was uncommon, and therefore the tomb must belong to the infamous priest.Jacobovici, a well-known documentary filmmaker, has produced films about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and human trafficking that earned him two Emmy Awards.He also worked alongside film director James Cameron on the movie Jesus' Lost Tomb.He expects to soon release a movie about the latest finds, entitled Nails on the Cross.
