Gavin Newsom signed a series of bills on Wednesday aimed at reforming the criminal justice system in California.The series of bills signed by Newsom intends to increase oversight of the criminal justice system, amid nationwide calls for police reform. Newsom and advocates hailed the new laws as first steps in reforming policing in the state.“I hope people recognize we’re moving in the right direction, and again I just recognize we have a lot more work to do in this space and we are not walking away from that responsibility,” Newsom said.The bills signed will enact several reforms including:AB-1196: A ban on arm-based grips, including chokeholds that apply pressure to a person's windpipe, and to carotid holds, which slow the flow of blood to the brain.AB-1506: Requiring the state attorney general to investigate fatal police shootings of unarmed civilians.AB-1185: Allowing county supervisors to create oversight board and inspectors general with subpoena powers over independently elected sheriffs.AB-2542: Suspects could be entitled to new trials or sentences if they can demonstrate racial bias played a role in any part of their case.AB-3070: Allowing judges to assess whether lawyers illegally exclude jurors based on their race.SB-823: Will phase out California's remaining juvenile prisons. (KGTV) — Bombshell testimony was dropped on the third day of a Navy SEAL's trial over the fatal stabbing an injured teenage ISIS combatant in Iraq.Navy SEAL Special Operator First Class Corey Scott testified Thursday that he was responsible for the teen's death, not fellow SEAL Chief Edward Gallagher, who is accused of murdering the injured fighter after he was captured.Scott told the court that he held down the teen's breathing tube so that he couldn't breathe after seeing Gallagher stab the combatant. RELATED: Witness: Navy SEAL called dead prisoner an 'ISIS dirt bag'He added “he knew he was going to die” and didn't want the teen to suffer or be tortured, so he held his thumb over the teen's tracheal tube and suffocated him. Scott said his actions took place immediately after Gallagher stabbed the injured teen under the collar bone.During cross-examination, Scott told the court he doesn't want to see Gallagher go to jail or his family endure any further harm from the trial.Scott was deployed with the Navy Chief in 2017.RELATED: Prosecutor: Navy SEAL bragged he 'got' victim with knifeProsecutors say Scott cannot be persecuted for his testimony on the stand, but he can be prosecuted for perjury. (KGTV) — Disneyland's "Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge" expansion will host the park's most complex attraction ever — and possibly at any theme park.During Star Wars Celebration this weekend in Chicago, Disney's Imagineering team dished on "Galaxy's Edge" attractions and the creation of the land. Part of that came a few tidbits regarding the second highly-anticipated ride coming this year: "Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance."RELATED: The rides, foods, toys you'll get to enjoy at Disneyland's 'Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge'"This is the biggest attraction we’ve ever built," Scott Trowbridge, Portfolio Creative Executive at Walt Disney Imagineering, said during the presentation. There are even life-size recreations of Poe Dameron's X-Wing and A-Wing fighters and TIE fighters.Imagineers also revealed custom bottles of Coca-Cola, Diet Coke, Sprite and Dasani coming to the "Star Wars" land, fashioned into a droid-like shape and covered in Aurebesh, a fictional language used in the film franchise.
