Our employees, suppliers, dealers, and above all our customers, can be confident that Volvo will preserve its special status as the industry leader in vehicle safety and innovation, even as it pursues new market opportunities."Jacoby will join the board of Volvo Cars, chaired by Geely chairman Li. The board comprises several new directors including Hans-Olov Olsson, former president and chief executive of Volvo Cars and former chief marketing officer of Ford, who will become vice chairman of the board.Hans-Oskarsson, deputy chief financial officer, will replace Stuart Rowley as the CFO of Volvo Cars. Rowley and former Volvo president and chief executive Stephen Odell are moving to leadership roles at Ford of Europe.Geely paid 1.3 billion U.S. dollars in cash plus a 200-million-dollar note, less than the price worth 1.8 billion dollars announced in March due to changes in pension obligations and working capital.Under the new ownership, Volvo Cars will keep its headquarters and manufacturing presence in Sweden and Belgium, and its board will have autonomy to execute its strategic plan. Volvo and Ford will maintain close relations in component supply.

BEIJING, July 27 (Xinhua) -- China's largest gold producer said on Tuesday its operating profits rose by three fold to 1.55 billion yuan (228.09 million U.S. dollars) in the first six months this year.China National Gold Group Corp. said in a statement that its first-half revenue grew by 98 percent from a year earlier to 27.67 billion yuan and expected its full-year revenue to reach 50 billion yuan.At the end of June, the gold producer had 1,250 tonnes of gold reserves, eight million tonnes of copper reserves and 1.6 million tonnes of molybdenum, according to the statement. In the first half of 2010, the company added a total of 24.7 tonnes of gold, 683,000 tonnes of copper and 445,000 tonnes of molybdenum to its reserves, said the statement. The company had improved its development strategies through conducting merge and acquisitions, integrating regional resources and exploring overseas, said Sun Zhaoxue, general manager of the gold producer.
BEIJING, June 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese police will begin a special four-month campaign to crack down on the production and use of counterfeit automobile license plates on Thursday.Police around the country will target trade in fake license plates, registration papers and other license plate-related crime, the Ministry of Public Security said Wednesday in a statement on its website.Violators sometimes forge license plates for military and government vehicles to enjoy privileges like free expressway charges. Some drivers use stickers to cover their license plates to cheat police. The campaign will begin June 10 and finish Oct. 10.Police carried out similar campaigns during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the National Day holidays in 2009 to create better traffic conditions.Statistics with the ministry show police nationwide seized about 267,000 counterfeit license plates in the 2008 campaign and 183,000 fake plates in the 2009 campaign.
CHENGDU, Aug. 14 (Xinhua) - A panda cub born Friday afternoon at a breeding center in southwest China is just another panda bear born at the center. What makes her unique is her mother.Jini, the panda mother, gave birth to the female cuba at the age of 17. She is compared to a human in her sixties, the Wolong Giant Panda Protection and Research Center in Sichuan Province said in a statement. The female cub weighed 125 grams. She was born at 14:41 p.m., four hours after Jini went into labour. Both the mother and cub are in good health, said the statement.Jini, a resident of Beijing Zoo, was sent to the Wolong center this March for the cub-birth purpose because the research center has developed expertise in breeding techniques. With a 20-year breeding history, the Wolong Giant Panda Protection and Research Center is home to the world's largest captive panda population. It has helped Beijing Zoo and Chongqing Zoo and many zoos in other countries in breeding and feeding pandas. The new cub is Jini's second. It is the eleventh cub born at the Wolong center this year."Pandas come into heat in the spring and give birth in autumn. This is the main reason for the panda 'baby boom'," said Dang Chunxiang, an expert with the Wolong Center.More than 10 other pandas are expected to give birth over the next one or two months at the Wolong center.Jini delivered her first cub "Qingqing" in 2007 when she was thirteen and a half years old, which was itself rare amongst pandas. She also entered record books with her pregnancy that lasted 324 days. Generally, pandas deliver in 120 -150 days. The length of a panda's pregnancy depends on its health and nutrition level, according to experts.About 1,600 giant pandas are living in the wilds in China. Sichuan Province and the northwestern provinces of Shaanxi and Gansu are the home to most of them. Another 290 pandas are in captive-bred programs worldwide, mostly in mainland China.
