SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man was hospitalized Saturday night after being stabbed several times during a confrontation in Mission Beach, police said.The incident happened around 8 p.m. in the 900 block of West Mission Bay, said Ofc. Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.Heims said a 26-year-old man approached and exchanged words with a 50-year-old man. The younger man then pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim multiple times."The victim fell to the ground and the suspect fled the scene," Heims said. "The victim was transported to the hospital where his injuries were determined (to be) non-life threatening."The suspect was caught a short time later and arrested. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A nursing assistant at a Rancho Bernardo senior care facility is battling for her life, diagnosed with COVID-19. In terms of coronavirus, Villa Rancho Bernardo care center is among the hardest-hit senior care facilities in the county.In early May, Lani says her sister, Irene Branch, a longtime nursing assistant there, told her about all the sick calls, and repeated her insistence to keep working."She always has a big heart. If they are short, she always go to work," said Lani.Around the same time, Branch started to feel sick."Coughing a little bit, no appetite and a short fever," said Lani.Her symptoms quickly got worse and a few days later, Lani got a frightening call from her sister. "She had shortness of breath, so I told her to call 911," said Lani.She did, and a day later in the ICU, Branch was on a ventilator. She received donated plasma containing COVID-19 antibodies, but her condition has deteriorated. Kidney failure has led to ongoing dialysis."I pray. Our family is praying a lot. Every one is praying for her," said Lani.Lani says doctors recently removed her from a medically induced coma, but she remains comatose. "She can't wake up. That's the problem. She's not waking up ... It's hard. I can't accept it right now," said Lani.Unable to visit her sister because of COVID-19 restrictions, Lani recently talked to Branch via Facetime while a hospital worker held up a phone."Telling her we are here to support her. Letting her know we are not abandoning her ... I am very hopeful. I will not give up," said Lani. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A marijuana delivery driver was robbed at gun point and shot in North Park late Friday.According to San Diego Police Officer Robert Heims, the 21-year-old victim was making a delivery in the 2000 block of Haller Street at about 9:01 p.m. when a gunmen approached his vehicle and demanded marijuana.Related: Million dollar Fed?cartel seizureThe driver grabbed the suspect's gun and as they wrestled for the weapon the driver was shot twice in the right hand. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A local group called the San Diego Rapid Response Network is calling on the community to help asylum-seekers being released throughout San Diego County. On Monday, the group held a press conference explaining how they have been helping the migrants as they are released by ICE, awaiting their asylum hearing. The network is made up of several local churches, the local ACLU, and Casa Cornelia. Volunteers say they have been helping migrants by providing shelter, food, and medical services. They say they've also made travel arrangements to help the migrants get to their final destination. Volunteers tell 10News the migrants are released with no resources and sometimes late at night. The group says they felt the need to help after ICE ended their policy of connecting the migrants with a family member or a sponsor before their release. ICE tells 10News they always plan for releases during the daylight hours but say sometimes things can get delayed since it is a multi-agency effort. They told us of only one instance where the group was released after sundown. The rapid response network is hoping the community will help with monetary donations so they can continue providing their services. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A new scam appears to target local Amazon customers worried about being victims of package theft.Neighbors at the Escala community in Mission Valley say package thefts have been an ongoing problem for the last few years.Could the trend be providing fuel for a scam? A recent encounter at the housing complex could point to a new method by scammers.Adriana Alberdi, who has lived at the complex for a decade, said she and other residents received an email from the property management company describing a recent visitor.According to the email, the man — described as blond and in his early 20s — was wearing a lanyard connected to a tablet. He had business cards and claimed to work at Amazon. At one point, the man went to the on-site office pushing to install an Amazon Key device in homes. The new service allows Amazon to gain access to a home or car to deliver packages and keep them from getting stolen.The email says the man was "pushy" and "argumentative," before finally leaving. Amazon confirmed the man was not an employee."It's like you're getting robbed of your security. You don't know who to trust anymore," said Alberdi. "This is new.
