SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- An exonerated marine colonel was denied release from the Camp Pendleton brig. Colonel Dan Wilson's release was denied three months after he was exonerated for sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl. In July, an appellate court overturned his conviction. Since then, his family has been awaiting his release. His wife spoke to 10News over the phone just moments after his release was denied. "I was shocked and I burst into tears. This man has been in for two years and 10 months," said Susan Wilson. "If they cant believe their own court of appeals then there's a problem there."His family maintains the system has been unjust from the beginning. "I just feel as though he’s getting a really bad rap by the USMC after 38 years of service and 11 deployments," said Wilson. "It's astounding to me that they pride themselves on ‘Marines take care of their own’. Well, they haven’t taken care of us whatsoever."Col. Wilson was also convicted of unauthorized leave and conduct unbecoming of an officer. He'll stay behind bars while he awaits a re-sentencing for those charges. 1100

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An Air Force pilot killed during the Vietnam war will finally be laid to rest Saturday. Major Roy Knight Jr. died in action in 1967 when his plane was shot down over Laos. In the following decades there were multiple efforts to find his remains. It wasn’t until earlier this year that investigators discovered Knight and used dental records to identify him. “It is remarkable; I can’t believe it happened,” said his son Roy Knight III of Valley Center. Knight’s family had almost given up hope of seeing him buried. “There's a bunch of emotions that happen. First is just enormous gratitude for the people that went in and got him and that we as a nation continued to try to find him.” Thursday, Knight’s remains were taken from Laos to Dallas Love Field on a Southwest flight. In the cockpit was Knight’s oldest son, a Southwest pilot who saw his father leave for Vietnam at the same airport years ago. “We came up with the idea of what if would it be possible, and it required both tremendous effort on the part of the Air Force and Southwest Airlines to make it happen,” Knight said. Knight said his father was and always will be his hero. “The tremendous respect and honor shown my father, and and there's no doubt he earned that as does every one of our armed forces, especially our fallen.” Major Roy Knight Jr. will be buried in Weatherford, Texas. 1382

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - An Ocean Beach man says he was home when two burglars in a white Mercedes-Benz were raiding his garage and stealing his vehicle.      Along Lotus Street last week around 1:30 in the afternoon, Evan Montoya was in his upstairs bedroom and never heard a thing.  But when he later went down to the garage, he noticed some things were out of place and his car keys were gone.  Outside, the car belonging to Montoya - an Uber and Lyft driver - was nowhere to be found."My heart sank into the pit of my stomach.  That's my livelihood.  They took my entire world when they took my car," said Montoya.But that was hardly the entire loss.  Montoya believes the intruders slipped under the garage door - left open because the garage gets hot - before grabbing anything electric."Basically they went on a shopping spree through our garage and took whatever they wanted," said Montoya.  After the break-in, a neighbor handed him surveillance video showing a white Mercedes sedan stopping in the alley in front of the garage.  In the video, a man and a woman are seen going back and forth to their garage, before they finally drive off."Makes you feel unsafe in your home, which is the one place you're supposed to feel safe," said Montoya.Montoya's car was found abandoned a few days later.  Meanwhile, the video has been shared by neighbors across social media.  Some seven other neighbors have reported similar, recent break-ins. "People going through alleys stealing from houses," said Montoya.If you have any information on the cases, call Crimestoppers at 888-580-8477. 1659

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A sea lion pup in Encinitas was saved Tuesday from a diver's mask that was tightly wrapped around its neck.The year-old sea lion pup was found at Swami's Beach with a diver's mask wrapped around its neck. The sea lion, which only weighed about 32 pounds, appeared malnourished and dehydrated, according to SeaWorld rescue team members.The mask had been wrapped around the sea lion's neck for weeks, preventing the pup from foraging and eating.RELATED: Sea lion lies down in front of San Diego hotel's sign, refuses to budgeHad the mask remained on the pup, the animal would likely have eventually starved to death or been strangled by the mask, crews said.Rescue team members cut the mask off the sea lion, but found that a wound caused by the mask had become infected. Crews took the pup to SeaWorld’s Animal Health and Rescue Center, where officials treated the sea lion's wound.Officials say other than the wound and undernourishment, the sea lion was in good health. They hope to release the pup back into the wild in the next few months after rehabilitation. 1090

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A San Diego pastor is reflecting Wednesday on his special personal connection with Reverend Billy Graham, who passed away at his home in North Carolina from natural causes at the age of 99.Early in his career in 1949, Graham delivered a sermon at the Forest Home Christian Camp in the San Bernardino Mountains.  Bob Botsford's father ran the camp. Nearly two decades later during one of Graham's return visits to the camp - an excited, 5-year-old Bob interrupted his sermon."I remember yelling out 'Hi Billy!' And he yelled back, 'Hi Bobby,'" said Botsford.By then, Graham had become a family friend."I recall bigger-than-life charisma.  He was the most gentle soul and most humble man I've ever met in my life.  He was bold yet caring," said Botsford.Botsford says Graham inspired him to become a pastor at age 24."His invitation was for a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and that's what I longed for," said Botsford.Later, it was Botsford who flew to a revival in Kentucky to personally invite Graham to return to San Diego. His last revival was in San Diego almost 30 years before. "He said, 'Let's see if we can make that happen," said Botsford.It did.  In May 2003, a record-breaking crowd packed Qualcomm Stadium to hear him speak."It was electric and just filled with hope," said Botsford.After the event, there was a surprise in the mail.  Botsford received a bible from Graham in the mail, which included a message: "Bob Botsford. God Bless You and Keep You.  Amen.  Billy Graham.""Definitely one of my most treasured possessions," said Botsford.A decade and a half later, he must say goodbye to his friend."I'm sad for the world because we lost the greatest communicator of the gospel, but I'm happy for heaven because Billy is finally home," said Botsford.Botsford is also remembering a legacy.  At Qualcomm Stadium that day, his own son met Graham."I saw my son's eyes light up," said Botsford.The meeting inspired his son, who is now a youth pastor at Botsford's church, Horizon Christian Fellowship in Rancho Santa Fe."Third generation.
